I had a Korean BBQ bowl on a trip recently and I really had to get home and recreate something that tasted even better. You are going to love all the flavors you get from this bowl!

Recipe Ingredients:

1 medium head of cauliflower, cut into florets (about 2.5lbs)
1 cup all purpose flour (use 1:1 Gluten Free blend if needed)
½ cup corn flour
1 –1 ½ cups water
3 cups vegan panko breadcrumbs
For the Korean BBQ Sauce
½ small onion, chopped
½ Asian pear, cubed
6 cloves garlic, minced
½ inch Fresh ginger, grated
⅔ cup Low sodium soy sauce
6 tablespoon Maple syrup
¼ cup Rice wine vinegar
¼ cup Gochujang
2 tablespoon Toasted sesame oil
1 tablespoon water
1 tablespoon cornstarch
2 tablespoon toasted sesame seeds
3 scallions, chopped

3 cups cooked rice
vegan kimchi

Korean here. I think the western way of eating has many non-Koreans thinking that banchan (bahn chahn) is free appetizers because they are set out way before the main comes out. And Korean restaurants in the US have leaned into it to some degree. Banchan traditionally is actually a collective of side dishes we eat WITH the main meal to enhance or even change the flavor profile of each bite. Yes, we have been known to munch on them before the main comes but we usually reserve banchan to eat with the main meal or even just with the rice. There are thousands of different kinds of banchan with some being specific to a region but the ones you see at the restaurants and Korean markets are the most used or well loved.

This looks soooo good! I am a huge fan of dishes, which consist basically of just a lot of different small dishes. Actually you kind of made a korean bbq tapas plate! Love that!

I lived in South Korea for 3 years. Not an expert but I know a few things. Would say this is closer to Korean fried chicken than Korean BBQ. Also your pronounciation of banchan was solid lol. Great video!

Andrew, That looks amazing. I just saw a video (Can't remember the source) They used the leaves on the cauliflower and described it tasting like bok choy. I have not tried it yet but I'm going to.Thank You for the video!
