“War Claimed My Leg, & Heroin Tried Claiming My Life'

After 9/11, Sergeant Kendra Lou Garza decided to help defend our country.  The biggest challenge she faced was after she returned home.

The casualties of war are a stark reminder of the high price our military pays for freedom.  After almost 65 years, the remains of fallen soldiers are finally back home, in America.  They died in the Korean War.  Today we know, even when a soldier survives combat, the wounds, physical and emotional can last a life time.  The terror attacks on 9/11 inspired Sergeant Kendra Lou Garza to sign up for the US Army.  She feels her service taught her to overcome anything, but it has not been easy.  She says quite bluntly, “war claimed my leg, and heroin tried claiming my life.  So far I’m winning this battle.”
