karate has a bigger variety of punches than boxe. In official fights we can’t employ all that punches because of the rules, but in the practice karate has a great variety of punches.

we actually use hooks a lot. the main reason karate doesn't use a lot of punching is that they don't spar with punches to the head (which is a good thing, nobody wants CTE). but hooks are great as a replacement for roundhouse when hitting the lats of the opponent. i knew someone that would use use the couple seconds it took to kick in order to get in and do a hook on their lats

As a Kyokushin Guy, those ab punches are being spammed 24/7 and I can tell for a fact that Sports Karate favors Straight Punches cause they fight from a distance and uses Explosive and Sudden Movements. Kyokushin favors Hooks more than Shotokan and other Karate Guys cause you're fighting at kissing distance.

Boxing is the fighting style that focuses exclusively on punches as your primary weapons, so if I were to learn how to properly punch, I’m definitely going with Boxing

Mid and short range : Boxing

For self defends alone though I think keeping it simple often helps the most, straight punches with a few basic kicks like the roundhouse and the front kick works wonderfully

A good martial art should not be limited. The point of the arts was originally to protect one self using everything at the disposal of the fighter. Karate used to fill this role turning your whole body into a weapon. A fighting style of control is easier when you have multiple different techniques to implement in a wide range of situations. In this case for sparring I prefer boxing punches simply for the fact it increases number of possible points of contact for better defensive training but also includes as stated more moves allowing for better control of the opponent. If I swing right hook a couple of times even if they don't have force behind them it makes it easier to force a right hook block vs the right hook faint. The best thing would be to learn as much as possible from as many sources as possible then work out your own fighting style.
P.S. I hope you all have a fantastic day and stay safe.

Major difference. Foot movement, types of punches thrown. Combos. Body shot and hooks thrown different. Many differences but you can incorporate boxing into karate strikes

Did you just ask if I prefer boxing punches or karate punches?

Boxing is incredible for punches, but I personally still prefer it to karate because they train without gloves and this works well for realism in self-defense, I think if someone mixed both, it would be unstoppable.

In taekwondo I use more Hooks and uppercuts to the body, usually on close quarters
