I'm 64. According to this, my target fat-burning heart rate is 109 bpm. Now, I do :30 minutes of cardio on the elliptical daily at I'd say the average bpm during that duration is about 128-130 bpm, as high as 140 for several minutes. At no point am I winded and can carry on a conversation without losing my breath, only slight heavy breathing. If I were to do 109 bpm I'd feel like I was standing still. What does this mean?

you may not think this is a good way to burn fat but it is! you will improve your resting heart rate and also burn fat which has an after burn effect after the workout.

Where is karvonen formula to measure target heart rate. I think it's the most reliable formula as compare to simple one. What is your opinion?

can someone please explain why going above 70% of max HR is less beneficial? wouldn't the heart work harder and pump more blood/oxygen to muscles, allowing them to require more energy, thereby burning more fat to supply said energy? any information would be appreciated

Ok. Got it. For me it’s 220-55.5=164.5. Then 164.5 X 0.65=106.925.
So how much room do I have above and below 106.925?
I’m currently on a treadmill at Planet Fitness. Walking 44 minutes at a 3.0 pace, 3.5 elevation and my heart rate is 117. I’m sweating pretty good but not breathing hard at all. Recommendations?

When I do this, I'm the slowest treadmiller at the gym and I feel like a real "slacker"...I barely even sweat. Are you SURE about this?

Can someone explain why 30 minutes of cardio at a higher rate would burn less fat than 30 min of the same cardio at that lower heart rate number...

I think you forgot one thing
I read in Mayo Clinic
220 - your age.

And then you measure your BPM

So you subtract 220 - your age - your resting BPM.

Then you multiply by 0.6

Then you add your resting BPM.

For example.

I am 30 yo.

220 - 30 = 190

My resting BPM is 84 right now

190 - 84 = 106

106 Multiply by 0.6 = 63.6
106 Multiply by 0.7= 74.2

Now you add your resting BPM
63.6 + 84 = 147.6
74.2 + 84 = 158.2

So my range to keep it is between 147.6-158.2

But this is considerate moderate .

I feel once you start sweating (even a bit) it means fat is burning .
