5 labor mistakes that I hope to avoid with my current pregnancy. In my last pregnancy, I thought I'd be prepared for the birth / delivery of my son. Unfortunately, I made some common mistakes that caused me unnecessary pushing and pain.

In this video, I'll share what those five mistakes were so that you can avoid them during your baby's delivery. If you're a labor and delivery nurse, you might want to make sure that your patients know about these things as well.

Having a baby seems like common sense, but there are so many things that can go wrong. There are also many things that can make the process go as smoothly as possible.

About the pushing, I laboured for 15 hours, but I pushed for just under 2 minutes. You need to be in a position that just feels right (but you wont be able to feel that with epidural), and push as if you are the most constipated and have the biggest poo you've ever had in your whole life. That was the only tip I had going in and it worked.

I had same problem when I had my child. I felt everything on my right side n left side was totally norm. I pushed for 3 hrs because my baby was 10 Lb. Prayers for ur safe delivering

I’m a postpartum nurse, and the whole breastfeeding thing is true. Many times, with the moms who are getting frustrated with the breastfeeding, I’ll tell them that the video you see in the class where the baby crawls to the breast and latches in perfectly is NOT the norm! They’ve been in a studio apartment for 9 months and have had room service, pretty much, where mom has provided everything. Now, they have to work a bit for their food! 😀

I'm well past baby making age, but I have been Doula for a friend (we've been friends since nursing school) twice now. The idea about the Gatorade, broth, ice pops.. that's great! I'm gonna add that to my arsenal. OH.. and the epidural.. I don't think they have ever told her that (and she's had a baby in two different facilities).
