The second car (Blue "Lambo") is actually sitting in my garage. I picked it up for a good price about a year ago and upgraded the suspension, installed Corvette brakes, and a modified 3.8 supercharged engine (390bhp). It's fun to drive, it's dependable, and so far everybody seems to love it. To each their own I guess, I just know I'm having a blast with it.

Back in the day, my brother and I each owned a Pontiac Fiero. I really believe that this was one car that didn't get near the respect it deserved. Mine had the iron duke four cylinder while my brother's had the V6. Neither car ever gave any indication that they might catch on fire. I don't know where you got that info. My four banger would easily go 100mph and my bro's V6 would easily top 120. But here's what no one mentions about the Fiero. It's one damn solid car. Because GM was experimenting with flexible body panels, the car's chassis was extremely rigid. It had to be. There were no squeaks, no rattles and no surprises when it came to handling. Even unmodified, these cars handled like slot cars and were just an absolute hoot to drive. During the time we drove ours, a group of Fiero enthusiasts were putting V8s in them and the most feasible and easiest seemed to be using the Cadillac Northstar engine and trans combo. Of course, you gave up the 5-speed but hey, in stock form, the Northstar put out some 300 ponies. That was insane for a car the size of the Fiero.

Most of these VW Type 1 based kits took several hundred pounds off the weight of the donor vehicle when installed on them. So the performance and handling was improved markedly. It was easy to hotrod a VW engine with multi barrel carbs, hotter cams and increasing their displacement with larger cylinders and crankshafts. Or either a Porsche flat six out of a 911 or later a Wankel rotary engine out of a Mazda for substantial power increases. Likewise the Fiero could easily have a more powerful GM 16 valve dohc four, V6 or even V8s installed. Pontiac designed the Fiero as a very potent car, which was throttled way back by GM so as not outshine the Corvette.

The first two weren’t so bad. At the right price it would still be fun.

I’d rather not race a replica than race some rando on the highway and wreck a 100k+ real one.

Still my favorite, the Sterling kit car did not make the list so for that I’m happy.

As much as you can call any wedge kit car from the 1980s and 1970s "ugly"
If you build them right, they're not as ugly. Its a matter of painting, quality of the materials and way you build it like any kit car.

To each their own, but I disagree about the VW Kit Cars. The engines could easily have their HP nearly doubled from stock with just bolt on mods. Replace it with a Porsche motor, or Corvair motor and you can really pour on the beans with low weight of the car. Almost bought a Laser 917 back in the day, but insurance on a fiberglass kit car was just too much for me back then.

Man folks are narrow minded, the fiero is a great platform for th3 308, the chassis stays the same, a body kit is attached, and the v-6 can be upgraded with any v8 of choice. LOL! I knew a dude that did just that. and that ferrari kit car went fast with the v8 and airconditioning to boot.

I had an '87 Fiero and you're mistaken about the performance. Not all VW's are slow either. A well built engine with a 72mm crank, 92mm pistons, racing heads & dual 40mm carbs maybe even a turbo... you'll be singing a different tune.

I remember seeing Bradley GT's all over the place at my annual trek to the Budweiser World of Wheels in downtown D.C. in the 70's.

Even saw a March Hare. Never understood that thing.

First of all, it is a pretty big challenge to create anything like one of these Kit Cars. I try not to judge something that is this big of an undertaking.
Beauty is always in the eye of the beholder. The Bradley and the Lazer are both cars that founded the Kit Car market. There were many others that have
come and gone. For many, it was a chance to build something very unique. The Kit Car market exploded into the "Specialty Car" market. Now offering
numerous high end options if you have the money. Many you can still purchase in kit form. Many you can buy complete.

This is all bulls**t. Most of these are classics, the Laser 917 especially. The blue Lambo looks fun and usable.

i completely get your Comedy and funny Comments on the majority of the Kitcars you featured i have seen a couple of The Lazer kits modified and done to look really good not necessarily a perfect 917 likeness but a proportionate Supercar looking design and fit and finish overall. just a little information on the AirCooled VW engines it is a fact that some only did have 36 horsepower stock but a. interesting thing about that block and design it’s very feasible to turn that engine into one producing 200 horsepower with a Stoker kit and the benefit is it’s not outrageously expensive to do so and you can have a very reliable and inexpensive motor to maintain and run also another good option for Aircooled VW platforms is swapping out the Air cooled VW motor for a Watercooled Subaru Boxer engine fitted to the VW Transaxle you can wind up with a pretty fast rear engine Automobile again for a reasonable cost you are correct that in the popularity of many of the kits in the 1970s a lot of them were cobbled together by Amatuers in their garages but those can be picked up very inexpensively and with some Ingenuity and a few dollars can be turned around by the right person

another note on those Hare kit cars in the 1970s a few boat builders experimented with the non flammable Fiberglass Resins and i know there were many issues with the products curing and developing blisters in the process that created spot spots and later on areas that allowed water to penetrate the hulls built out of them I know it put a couple of companies out of business and a few of their Yachts are still around but are not reccomended to own because of the high maintenance and repair costs related to that Resin i do not know if the Hare body kits used that exact product or not. but it being a Company that operated out of Virginia it seems to me to be Plauseable as many people in the Marine Industry were involved in other Fiberglass Industries as at that time (1970s) there were not many Industries of Fiberglass Experts and Specialists two of the boat companies i know had major issues with that Resin were. located in that same region of thecNorth East United States and yes some of those Hulls are still around currently but are genuinely regarded as not advisable to own or purchase often people that don’t know better. see them as a tempting purchase because of their highly discounted price on a “Project Boat “ and i’ve seen them around the Marinas and other Venues. exactly as that i will note one of the manufacturers. used a ver desireable Mold designed by one of the greatest Naval Engineers from the boating and Yacht World so it adds to the overall Attraction because the same design and Mold was used by a couple of very well known Builders with high quality on fit, Finish, and Service so people do get caught up into that trap of Wow i can purchase this Look Alike for half the price of the RealThing
