How to Sysprep and Capture Windows 11 21H2 using Microsoft Deployment Toolkit (MDT and WDS)

Показать описание

Learn how to use the Sysprep and Capture features included with Microsoft Deployment Toolkit to capture a custom reference image of Windows 11 21H2 and then deploy that custom reference golden image over the network. In this example, I go over the process of creating a new deployment share specifically for capturing images, how to use the lite touch script vbs script to initiate the image capture process, and how to then deploy that image.

Thanks Danny. I've been having to Sysprep through importing the machine into hyper v then converting it back to wim. Finally have the time to figure out Sysprep integration with mdt, this video helped alot.

Thank you for the guide, I was able to successfully capture my staged VM with no issues. PXE booting a device now to test, fingers crossed that everything looks good.

Hi Danny, Nice video regarding syspre and capture, appreciate your effort in creating it. One question regarding your reference image. Are you running that image in audit mode? I’ve been told the capture should happen in audit mode, not sure if that is accurate information, or a requirement.

Hi! Both videos are bless for me. I was struggling with this topic for a while. There is only one thing that makes me curious: How about new pc's that comes with preinstaled Windows and their "partitions layout". Does such "network install" ovveride those or there is additional step needed before such deployment is run?

Another great video. Do you have a video on displaying the domain details as shown at 12:46 (host name, bot time etc)

Hello! Thanks for the videos, extremely helpful. Is there any way to deploy particular apps after u instal the golden image? I have multiple projects and i need one basic image with normal programs like 7zip and adobe then i have to add 5 particular apps that are project related.

Hello Danny Moran, I tried the same and created two separate folders for deployment and capturing purposes. While deploying a new image, it is working fine with different settings in MDT rules, but while capturing a customized image, when I try to run LiteTouch vb script file after making sure it's not connected to the domain, it's always stuck on Apply Windows Pe 1024 and it's going nowhere. I even checked events in my WDS server, nothing seems to be there. Do you know what's causing the problem?

Hi sir, thanks for your precious video, I was wondering what version of MDT did u use in this video? I wish to use build 6.3.8456.1000 and it's different from what u r using. Kindly please, make a video with my version. Thanks

Wait so you didn't need to add the boot/ install .wim file into WDS? you can actually PXE boot from just MDT? or did I miss this in the video?

Excellent Tutorial. Just a suggestion, may be giving a real life example when to do this would be great. Very nice tutorial.

Hi- Great tutorial but I am trying to capture a Windows 10 21H2 reference image. It fails every time referencing an Appx package that was installed for one user but not provisioned for all users. I remove-appxpackage and retry only to be presented with another one. Do you have any suggestions on how to get through this?

I followed all the steps including 'sysprep and capture' yet .. when goint to \\server\deploymentsharecapture$, follow prompts, TS gives "Standard Client TS" option to install, not sure where Standard TS comes from when specifications are for the sysprep and capture TS

hello Dan!
When running the LiteTouch script and completing the Deployment Wizard, it would say that it's sysprepping the system but upon completion the machine would automatically reboot an d the capture image isn't found in the Captures folder of the Deployment Share directory.
What could be the problem here?

Thanks for the video. When I do this, after I run the vbs script it reboots and then says sysprep is already running. I will note that i am running in audit mode from the OOBE screen.

Danny, this is excellent stuff! I have a few questions. Once I start the litetouch, the PC reboots, it does not stay in the same GUI that is in your video. Then I get an error stating that the Administrator username popping up and this message: your account has been disabled please see your system administrator. I am not sure what is going on. Second, what credentials am I putting in the specify credentials for connecting to the network shares? This is a little confusing. Am I putting in the domain info for the server or the local info? Or is this the reason for my error? I feel like a step is missing here and I am too blind to see it.

GreetingsWhat does it mean if it restarts but does not go into the MDT mode but instead goes directly back to Desktop?
