So, basically, a good analogy is like a war. Getting a degree and certifications is like winning one or two battles. Getting the interview and acing it is another battle. Landing the job is yet another battle. Maintaining the job is another ongoing battle. Winning the war means successfully navigating all these battles - keeping the job or gaining enough experience to move to another one if needed.

The real question is whether you're a fighter and how good of a fighter you are.

This is true especially when lack any soft skills and practical experience. I use to worked in customer service roles before moving into IT to develop my soft skills. I gotten lots of IT jobs without a degree or certifications because I was able to demonstrate in interviews of what I built in my homelab. I'm really good at explaining and breaking things down. Having a homelab and projects can go a long ways.

I got my current job because I made my interviewer laugh. Show them you’re a normal human being that happens to work in IT
