Whale surprises kayakers with up-close wild encounter.

This happened in Vancouver's English Bay. My friend was trying to free up space on his phone so he could shoot more video. The whale had not surfaced for awhile so we were unsure of where it was. My heart started racing when I saw small fish swimming to the surface in a frenzy, I knew it must be close. This was the most amazing wildlife experience of my life, a true bucket-list moment.

People ask me was I scared, looking back I probably should of been. The thing is I think you're just in awe when this huge majestic animal is coming towards you, everything slows down and this feeling of calm and warmth envelops you. You just know everything will be ok and that this moment was meant for you, enjoy it.

Whales, dolphin have the most sophisticated sonars, she knew you were floating still in your kayak and surfaced to give you a camera shot, even perfectly placing her tail just feet from you as she submerged. Heartbeatingly awesome.

God...that tail fin was barely two metres away from him...what a precise calculation... whales are good at maths too

They're amazing they're one of the most beautiful things I've ever seen and just see one up that closes so just it's a while to send you just can imagine and it's one of those things you never forget your whole life Jacques Cousteau moment

awesome. i had a 40' 40 ton humpback swim 10 feet below me near baybulls newfoundland. while i was in a kayak. we saw 75 breaches that day .

What a great experience you both had lifetime positive memory! You must love humpbacks as much as me. I have seen them on whale watching tours in the waters around Hawaii. They are so gentle yet so big! Gentle giants.

That is a once-in-a-lifetime experience I've been out in the ocean all my life commercial finished 36 years sport fish in Casco Bay in Portland Maine and have never I've experienced like that guy did lucky guy
