Scylla (EPIC: The Musical) - ANIMATIC [Blood and Flash Warning]

I have not made a lot of animatics in my time but BY FAR WAS THIS THE MOST TIRING + MOST FUN TO MAKE. Learning how to animate the serpents was an interesting experience, but it was a fruitful one indeed. Thank you all for almost 2K subscribers omg 😭🫶. Last bit was a tad bit rushed but I hope you enjoy nonetheless 🩵.

2:17 This is such a clever way of explaining how Eurylochus survived this encounter. Because assuming the animatic from the trailer for scyllas song being canon because Jorge commissioned it, Eurylochus should have died being the one lighting the torches. It makes so much sense him dropping the torch to try to help another soldier about to be killed.

I love how many people have Eurlochus somehow lose his torch in favour of another person then realise she’s aiming for the torches BEFORE that person dies. It adds a lot to the scene

I love how you make it look like Scylla is narrating/puppeteering both Eurylochus' and the crew's guilt as well as Odysseus' inner realization of betrayal to her advantage before revealing herself. I also like how in this animation Odysseus's "Eurylochus, light up six torches." Is more of an order that must be carried on instead of Eurylochus assuming that Odysseus has forgiven him. The red eyes and oppressive aura you gave Odysseus also shows that he intends to get away with murdering five members of his crew and Eurylochus instead of him looking shocked or guilty. The way Scylla says her lines while Odysseus looks up at her knowing exactly what he's doing while Eurylochus stares in disbelief, that last clip with Eurylochus looking angry at Odysseus for just sacrificing their comrades without any guilt or hesitation. Chefs kiss. Love this take on Odysseus 👏👏👏👏

OMG I LOVE HOW YOU DREW SCYLLA WITH RED EYES AT FIRST AND THEN MADE ODYSSUS' EYES RED STARTING FROM WHEN HE ORDERED ERYLYCUS TO LIGHT UP THE TORCHES!!! That's such a cool detail and really pushes the monster narritive

If you listen closely during the part after Odysseus says “Row for your lives”. You can hear the screams of the six men being eaten by scyllas heads, eg at 2:00

Wonderful animatic, love the adorably menacing Hydra heads, all the subtle details, and seeing Eurylochus putting the pieces together before the end, absolutely fantastic!

It makes me really appreciate how much effort was put into making Eurylochus his own character.

Fleshing him out from the beginning, song after song, making him constantly push Odysseus to just leave men behind, sacrifice them, until he learns his humanity and compassion for his men JUST in time for Odysseus to cast away his.

It makes the dumb-assery of his mutiny feel like an emotional anchor. He became a different person after years at sea, trying to get back home, seeing the humanity and comraderie of Odysseus. Not just an idiot that shows up, kills the holy cows and makes Zeus kill the rest of the crew.

This is the moment when the man that tried to stay humane became a monster, and the moment the man who insisted to be a monster until he got home finds out he can't be that. Not anymore.

I love how Odysseus walk to the front of the ship and stays in the dark. So he wont be blinded by the light and can see that scylla accepted his sacrifice

THIS IS LEGIT SO PERFECT- I had such a similar vision of Scylla just getting into their heads during the beginning dialogue and the way you portrayed it was an absolute masterpiece!!!! ❤ the subtle movement in Ody and Eurylochus along with the details with the eyes make this the masterpiece that it is :)

God I love your Scylla depiction! Probably my favourite one so far! And the wisps of her influence at the beginning? Argh so cool! I also love the idea that Ody is completely caught of f guard by E's confession, like he hadn't even thought about it! It's said in the comments before this one too, but E having a torch, forsaking it to try and save another crewmates, and realising whats happening... I 100% believe Ody asked him to light the torches, intending for him to end up with one in Ody's shock and betrayal.

All in all, great animatic, my ONLY gripe is Scyllas heads moved a little slow, but I can't animate for sh** so who am I to pick?

I found this something like 20 minutes ago and I've already watched it somewhere between 7-9 times, this might be my favourite Scylla animatic I've seen yet other than the two officially made livestream clips and even then it's close. So basically you have definitely earned yourself a new subscriber and a like.
