The Texas State Fair Banned Guns, Then This Happened

Last week, the Texas State Fair in Dallas, TX, decided to ban firearms for everyone except current and retired peace officers. The logic here is about as solid as a wet paper bag.

Last year, someone who wasn't supposed to have a gun snuck a gun into the fair and shot three people.

Instead of asking the hard questions like, 'How did this guy get past the metal detectors?' or 'Why didn't the security measures we already had in place work?' they decided the best solution was to disarm law-abiding citizens.

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton threatened to sue the city of Dallas, telling them they have 15 days to withdraw the gun ban statement they issued or legal action will be taken if they fail to comply.

Ken Paxton posted on X:

I have sent a notice letter to the City of Dallas directing it to withdraw the statement made by the State Fair of Texas, the organization contracted to run Fair Park during the annual event, that prohibits citizens from lawfully carrying a firearm on the premise. Texas law clearly states that license to carry holders may not be prevented from carrying a firearm on property owned or leased by the government unless otherwise prevented by state statute. The State Fair of Texas’s recent policy that infringes on LTC holders’ Second Amendment rights is unlawful. Dallas has fifteen days to fix the issue, otherwise I will see them in court

The fair is smack dab in the middle of a sketchy area. You know it, I know it, everybody knows it. So now, not only can you not carry at the fair, but every criminal in the area knows that, too. That walk from the parking lot just got a whole lot more dangerous.

This shooting last year was the deciding factor for me to get a firearm and apply for my CCL of which I now have. I was at the State Fair with my girlfriend when this happened, maybe about 300-400 feet away. It was a mad scramble to the exit. Kids were screaming "I don't want to die", people were frantic and pushing, and I was unarmed.

We used DART (public transportation) to get to the fair, which was cancelled while they searched for this man. UBER was not allowed inside a certain radius, and we were without a car. For those who don't know, the TX State Fair is not in a great neighbor. My GF and I were approached by several people offering drugs or prostitution while we walked as far away as we could because cell phones were down (everyone was on the network at once) and could not call anyone for a ride. I felt so helpless in the moment and like I couldn't protect myself or my GF.

I am NOT a gun owner and I am surrounded by people that carry all the time.. even at church services... you know what? I never feel unsafe around my fellow gun carrying Texans... I know 99.9% of them are very careful and are responsible gun owners. The problem are the criminals not the law abiding citizens of Texas.
