This is good advice but also remember to make yourself want to code, want it more, desire it more, remind yourself of why you are doing it and you will even have fun!

Not only he tells you to stop procrastinating, he also shows you how, and keeps the video short. Thank you BigBro, you're a real one

I think practicing self discipline is important. While turning off the computer might work for some, I feel it’s better to reflect on the past negative consequences from procrastination when you realize you’re procrastinating again rather than creating negative consequences for your negative habits. Creating negative consequences seems unhealthy.

I believe it’s healthier to reflect on the negatives from the past, then reward yourself when you overcome and accomplish what you set out to do. Depriving yourself from the satisfaction of the reward when you know you didn’t accomplish your goal can achieve more productivity without self harm.

Wow, it's like you're calling me out directly. Thank you for the idea, I'll try this. I love your content, it keeps me motivated.

A strategy I've implemented recently is introducing a physical timer to my desk. When I want to work, I set it for an hour and then commit myself to studying or working for that hour. This way I can see it tick by, and it's not something digital that can be easily turned off or closed like a tab on my browser. Normally after the hour is up I'm well into the working mindset and then transition to a 1 hour work/10 minute break away from my computer pomodoro cycle.

I used to think I had crippling ADHD before this, but honestly my capacity for concentrating when I actually commit to doing work makes me believe I just have problems with actually starting. By using the timer as a low effort action, to springboard into a higher effort action I've effectively bypassed this mental block. I also write down some basic tasks to complete on top of this, just to keep me actionable so I'm not just 'working' without direction.

"Once something is in front of you, it's harder not to do it" This line is going into my upcoming blog post.

Wonderful content Bigbox

Always need to hear this; Pomodoro helps a bit but even then I lose focus. Restart the PC and yourself, then just code. I laugh at myself for "over-engineering" afterwards but refactoring is part of the process. I also think better after coding something rather than diagraming everything perfectly the first time in UML or whatever. Love your videos; looking forward to seeing more.

I agree to a point. I feel like that can be unhealthy to force yourself to feel guilty about doing something else. If this were about food, that would be called and eating disorder.

I came up with something that I call "detox week". I am not allowed to do anything but code. Any form of entertainment should be replaced by coding. Works really well I would recommend it!

this is great advice, I always have like 5 different chrome windows open with 10+ tabs each. Its so easy to get distracted when your pc is cluttered.

For whatever reason, a big thing (but surely not the only thing) that prevents me from starting to code is that I HARDCORE overthink setting up my environment. It gives me major anxiety. I've never decided how I want to store or organize my projects. I'm not confident in Git, GitHub, IDEs, runtimes, frameworks, dlls, using multiple files in a project, or even really using packages. And don't even get me started on virtual environments in Python. I know the obvious solution is to just start and learn as I go, but that anxiety has been quite the blocker for me. I'm already drowning in so much other personal data (like my notes) because I too frequently change my organization schema for storage and the process of converting all my old data to fit in the new schema is so huge that I just don't do it and all those old files become disorganized and pretty much unretrievable. I don't want that to happen again 😔

Ngl the sticky note method seems genius and idk how I haven't thought of it yet.

I'm super glad that I've reached the point that watching YouTube and wasting time bores me and coding became the fun process instead.

I like to create a priority list of TODO tasks with project blockers at the top and easy tweaks at the bottom. When not really feeling like coding I'll knock out an easy item and feeling more motivated I'll try to knock out a big project blocking task.
