Although I may not be in the position to say what's true, I think part of being a CEO is to make sure that the career direction does not go into the "cynical" area. Maybe it is just me, but I see countless older engineers and CS professionals who display a very cynical viewpoint such that they feel they cannot trust others (can only trust very few types of people). For example, the owner of this Acoustic company (does Architectural Acoustics) who should probably remain anonymous... was my professor for Acoustic design at UC Berkeley during Fall 2016 and he could not stop talking about his angst for contractors missing details or not understanding the submittals. Otherwise, he is an excellent leader, but I would say that built up cynicism, albeit common, detracts from his leadership image... I see it as he has lost hope in his ability to manage or communicate. There are numerous examples though... Even from people I met through all those interviews throughout 2017... Let me know if you have observed this yourself.
