Balkan history in a nutshell:

A new conflict against the ottomans began.
And then, a new conflict against the ottomans began.
And then, a new conflict against the ottomans began.
And then, a new conflict against the ottomans began.
And then, a new conflict against the ottomans began.
And then, a new conflict against the ottomans began.
Then they started fighting each other.
And then, a new conflict against the ottomans began.
And then, a new conflict against the ottomans began.
And then, a new conflict against the ottomans began.
And then, a new conflict against the ottomans began.

As a guy who simps for history, guy who studies philosophy and a guy who is from Croatia, first time EVER I saw historical video/documentary about Balkan region that is completely historically correct, well researched, utterly honest and really, really enjoyable. I’m not trying to brag, just astounded by this video among tons of fast and bad content.

Well done and Thank you!

13:03 Not so fun fact: Bucharest is divided in 6 sectors, the nightclub was located in sector 4, the mayor at that time was charged criminaly because he approved the nightclub to be opened (even tho it shouldnt because it was unsafe in case of a fire, case proven the hard way), he got jailed (got out pretty quick), and now he is running for the major seat over the entire city (and he's fav to win, idfk how, at least there are people that didnt forgot him) (edit: I forgot to mention that he graduated from HIGHSCHOOL at 37 yrs)

My own favourite picture is from the Romanian Revolution showing a Romanian soldier with the most piercing blue eyes smiling serenely like he's found peace, a little tuft in his headwear from where his Communist insignia used to be.

On Romania topic, you missed the famous family photo taken on the Christmas day of the presidential couple at the time, est. 1989

I'm jealous of you guys
When you have successful revolutions, actual change happens

I'm Ugandan. My dad fought in a rebellion for the current government.
The reasons they were fighting for are literally the same things the successors are doing

And listening to dad talk, and watching his disappointment at the failure of what he fought for, sacrificed much for. Its truly heartbreaking

Its truly heartbreaking to listen to your father saying the country's going down the toilet, coz he's literally seen this before 😢

Not so fun fact about the girl on the picture at 8:37 :
The picture of the girl with sub-machinegun was taken by Vagn Hansen Danish photographer sometime at the end of October to the 1st of November 1956, was the then 15 years old Szeles Erika Kornélia.
Later, she joined the Red Cross, because she was told she was too young to fight.
When the picture became the cover for the Danish newspaper Billed Bladet on the 13th of November, she was allready dead, shot by Russians multiple times and killed, on the 7th of November while trying to save an injured comrade of hers, wearing white coat and Red Cross markings.

A cool fact about the water tower in vukovar: as was evident in the video, a flag waves on top of the water tower. During the war, members of the croatian resistance put up a croatian flag, that would be torn up and destroyed every day. But every night, croatian soldiers would climb up, stitch up the flag and put it back up. It’s a very cool story and i’m not doing it justice in this short comment.

Even though I'm a proud son of the south, I think the photo taken during to Yugoslavian civil war where there is graffiti in the background saying "welcome to hell" goes hard.

Although Moldova was not included here personally i would include photos from the Transnistria War (like the photos of the Battle of Tighina) or the 2009 protests (especially when the parliament building got raided), other photos that are less known but still have an impact in my opinion are that of the anti-soviet resistance groups such as the Armata Neagră (Black Army) and Arcașii lui Ștefan (Stephen's archers).

Are we not gonna talk about the fact that he included Kosovo but completely omitted Montenegro, although, most famous photos would probably be from some political rally...
