On our Trans Siberian train trip, we stopped at Irkutsk and took a van to Olkhon Island. We stayed on the island for 2-ish days and it took us around 8 hours to reach the island.

We got on the van around 9 am and arrived around 5 pm that day. The ferry takes about 2 hours and getting to the guest house took another hour.

Overall, it was a long day, but in our next video we will explore Olkhon Island. If you are wanting to see more from our Russian travels here are some of the videos:

Yeah the road looks a bit rough, funny thing that it looks very similar to what I remember from roughly 20 years ago, not much have changed here. Olkhon Islands is popular tourist destination on the west side of the lake, to travel on the east side you probably need to start the same 8 hours journey but from Buryatia. The best place on the east side is probably a Chivyrkuisky Bay. Deep pine forest with sandy shores, and similar serene timeless scenery.

There is no developed infrastructure on Baikal, there are no roads, because all the land on Baikal is protected by environmental legislation. To build any structure, it is necessary to make many decisions from the local government.

Почему именно Ольхон? Мне бухта Бабушка и Синичка больше нравятся.
