One of the most stubborn muscle groups many guys struggle to build is their calves. We can all think of the guy who has a massive upper body and even really well-built quads and hamstrings but still has small, skinny calves.

Does this mean they've been skipping calf exercises? Probably not. But they may have accepted the fact that their calves won't be as big as everything else, and they don't train them as effectively as possible—big mistake.

This video will be a comprehensive breakdown of building bigger calves based on scientific research and practical experience. We'll cover 3 of the biggest reasons your calves will NEVER grow if you keep making these mistakes. But if you fix these, calf gains are on their way.

Your video is the best one. You don’t just scientifically explain why there’s no growth, but show examples and recommended a routine workout plan. Some videos are too complicated but you truly made it very easy to follow. Thank you

When I started working out, my two main mistakes were lack of sleep and not eating enough (not being in a caloric surplus). I always thought I was eating enough and was disappointed because my weight stagnated. Then I got my first diet plan created (I think it was from Next Level Diet). I realised that my previous food intake was way below my needs, although I thought I'm good. At the beginning it was hard to eat 3000 kcal in a day, but I got used to it. I started noticing real gains and it felt amazing. I wish I'd understood the importance of diet earlier.

This is a correct video. My calves never grew doing just standing calf raises. The seated movement finally brought them out somewhat.

Nice video. It's so sad to see that many gyms don't even have calf machines, or at most, they only have 1 :(

Been working out 6 months today, and my Chest and Calves are my biggest gains by a mile, for Calves I do a lot of jumping, so a frog squat exploding all the way to tippy toes and after a few the Calf burn and hypertrophy is amazing, I do 12 sets a week of 15-20 reps and my Calves are my best gains, plus I do Tabata hiit with a lot of running up hills, hope this helps!

Pro tip: rucking on hills. Take a 30lb pack and walk 3 miles a day with hills involved. You will have calves in a month.

Training calve are important indeed, but when your calves are already underdeveloped despite efforts or regardless of reasons, no need to hopping to so many variations of the exercise. just stick with smiple standing calves raise, do it until it burns, and do it almost daily, would be my suggestion to everyone.

Try sprinting on an incline and be sure to utilize your calves.
That explosive action and energy will give your calves no option but to grow 💪

I believe it’s all about genetics as well. I’ve been mounting biking for 10 yrs, doing squat, calve raises I can never get my mine big. All it does is get stronger.

It’s all down to genetics when it comes to calves. You can improve definition through thousands of calf raises, but that’s about it. Believe me, I am sixty five now and have been working out since a teenager. You either have developed calves or you don’t. Anybody trying to tell you different is downright lying or don’t know any better.

Actually, genetic weakness is a real thing. I trained my calves like hell about 2 years ago. Working out my calves literally made my tear drop. Don't get me wrong.I did it in the right and proper ways like full range of motion, different feet positions, squeezing my calves about 3-4 secs in each reps, 5-6 sets with high reps 3-4 times a week, good stretching, giving my calves enough time to recover. I did see the results but compared to genetically blessed person who didn't even train his calves hard or properly, my calves were still small.

Thank you I've been lifting since I was 15 years old over 30 years and no one took the time to explain all that to me that's why I have chicken legs and a huge upper body thank you

I have found that using a weight that you can get full contractions at the peak and a fully deep stretch at the bottom without bouncing is they best for getting those micro tears. I always go hard on my calves and the next day they are super sore! I love it when my calves are sore and I rub them down. Kinda twisted that the calf pain makes me feel good!

Isolating with single leg calf raises has worked wonders for me. Size & visual gains beyond toning are indeed possible.

I was born with the tiniest calves no kidding. I was a muscle bound college football player but always ridiculed for my calves. Today I have pretty good calves but it took 12 years of consistent training, most of the workouts at home and I am obsessive about my calf workouts. I have more pride in this muscle group than any other though I see guys that have never trained calves have bigger ones. I am happy they will grow. Don't worry about what you are doing just train them any way you can- get blood down there even it it's in your living room doing one leggers. Every other day is good or close to that if you can.

I’ve trained calves a few times a week for years. Variety of exercises, reps, weights, full range of motion, etc. They’ve hardly responded as I have rubbish calf genetics (ultra high insertions). Genetics are the key driver.
Good vid/advice though 👍

I've been working on my calves for years but they haven't really grown much, while my brother rarely does any calve training yet he's got bigger and toned calves than me, it's all about being lucky in having good genetics
