You can switch between Foreground and Background just by pressing X, thats a default setting

is there best easiest way to color a number in two different color (50% white and 50% black) but at an angle (45 degree) - I use marquee tool but it's only good for horizontal and vertical.. thx

Here is another handy quick tip. If you decide that you want to add a tint to the wall of perhaps a portrait you have just created you can open up a new layer and select out the wall. With the wall still selected you can add colors to the selection with the following keyboard shortcuts:

Foreground color shortcut = backspace + ctl
Background color shortcut = backspace + alt

You can then perhaps change that new layer you just created to something like OVERLAY blend mode and adjust opacity to creat a subtle tint to the wall.

Sorry for being an idiot. I simply don't understand what the background color does. Foreground is black, say, and I see the black result painted on - but what was the background color doing in that process? Does the brush actually used the background color, or only the foreground color?

I got a problem when I click the eyedropper on any colour, it only changes my background colour only and it effects my swatches preset as a background colour only.
