Pret a Manger has axed 2,800 roles from its shops after completing a restructuring of its UK business.

The high street stalwart is struggling to survive the coronavirus pandemic and has already cut workers and closed stores.

Last month it revealed plans to permanently shut 30 shops across the country, before announcing a 20% reduction in staff working hours.

Alongside the job cuts in shops, a further 90 roles have been cut in Pret’s support centre teams.

Now Londoners will have to walk for on average 30 more seconds before getting to a pret.

Feel so sorry for all these folks losing jobs 😞 I work in Social Care, health care assistant in a Nursing Home, earn just above minimum but it's one of the few areas surviving . Lots of old people needing care . Feel really sorry for people whose jobs are going . Scary times . Keep safe and well people ♥️

Close them all down just to annoy that woman on Question Time who wanted us to stay in the EU so that there would be plenty of "trained" people to pour her coffee.

This is a shame. These were first to reopen and for a while the only coffee shops opened during quarantine/lockdown in the City of London!!! Thank you Pret staff - my favourite coffee shop - best service by a mile compared to the other coffee shops around!!

Great job by the Government. Excellent work, at least they consistent. Plus the BONUS of not having a no deal outcome with Europe as a reason to blame job losses on. A WIN WIN for Boris and the knobs, who will be just sitting back drinking cognac and smoking big cigars as normal because nothing as actually changed for them.

The amount of money saved by WFH ... i wont be back till Q1 2021 in the office. Even at that ... might just be a few days a week. Furlough and mortgage payment holidays coming to an end. The parties over ... how many business loans have been misused?

Because everyone working from home still soon be no jobs for kids out school or college uni. Office jobs will be given cheaper countries soon also no need pay high wages for people sitting at home doing a job someone from India could

Well done Boris & Co - you fell for the biggest scam in history, but it’s ordinary people who will pay the price for your gullibility and incompetence.

£5 for a cold sandwich and still don't have enough £ to keep the jobs? I hope they close all their shops and get replaced with some reasonable priced decent food place. Heck I can't even think of another chain in UK/Europe that sell worst food, I mean even Spoons and McDonalds sell their sandwich/burger warm most of the time.

And how many of your staff are in the office Evening Standard? With this distancing nonsense we can't all go back into the office, only a third of staff can now fit in my workplace. I am working from home and have been throughout the lockdown. Unfortunately with the government bringing in lockdown because it panicked we've all adapted. The shops will have to adapt or die.

Enterprising ex staffer should set up classes to teach people how to make their own damn sandwiches for a fraction of the cost.

Not exactly a high street stalwart if they're giving up on that many employees
