I have an 2001 V70XC that I bought from someone who's water pump bearing failed, causing the timing belt to jump, resulting in bent valves and their subsequent posting of the vehicle for sale. Changing the timing belt isn't the only concern, as seen in this example: the water pump, timing belt, idler pulley and tensioner all need to be changed together to ensure that all components of the camshaft drive are in good condition. I'd also like to suggest that when replacing these items that you spend as much as you can afford for quality replacement parts and not be tempted to save some money by installing off-brand parts that may fail prematurly. I chose to use an OEM AISAN water pump and a high performance timing belt kit from Gates. Also, if you're concerned that the belt or components are due for a change and you haven't yet reached the recommended mileage for the change, go ahead and replace them. You will sleep better knowing that you erred on the side of caution even if some say you changed them out prematurely. I can attest that finding and installing a rebuilt cylinder head wasn't easy or inexpensive as compared to what it costs to change out the timing belt kit.

My parents have a 2003 Volvo XC70 with the 2.5T. It has 450, 000 km. AWD doesn’t work (common issue) but works well as FWD. Sunroof doesn’t work. The original turbo is needing to be replaced soon, but it still drives great. I’m taking it to my mechanic to be looked at for them. It still averages 8.7L per 100km which I think is pretty good. These wagons have just aged beautifully.

The title of this video is misleading. This huge lump of information you give is you reading statistics of possible problems, you are not giving me any indication of what i should check for before i buy. Which is a completely different process.

Im on my 4th v70xc and they have been overall bad ass! It helps to know how to work on them yes. Timing belts are actually very durable and don't need changed till at least 100, 000 miles.

Just did the top end motor of my XC70 at 225000. Love this car. I have three Volvo wagons.

Your comment about the “electrical contacts” at 5:46 sounds exactly like the gremlins I’ve been chasing.
What is the “weakness” of the contacts that causes the connection loss?

I've seen the newest SUV's and hatchbacks which have become shorter with more plastic and thinner metal bodies that a hail storms have destroyed while they sat on the car lots to be sold to anyone who doesn't know any better. You get what you sometimes pay too much for while expecting more and getting less. With Volvo, the only thing I don't like is the price although you do get what you pay for and sometimes, unexpectedly, you get a whole lot more before you start paying more for repairs.

By leaps and bounds, the very worst car I’ve ever owned. 2001 v70 xc. Bought used with 125, 000 miles. Constant issues with everything. Transmission internal drum failure, engine mounts, CV shafts, angle gear leaks, viscous coupling seized, driveshaft support bearing, exhaust, several wheel bearings multiple times, struts, springs, steering rack, steering coupler, several blower motors, alternator, ac compressor, etm, intake ducting, intercooler ducting, cam phaser, cam seals, flex plate, ignition lock cylinder, shifter gate, driver door module, sunroof leaks, heated seat grid failures, numerous emissions/ evap leaks, purge solenoid, vapor canister hoses, sway bar bushings, sway bar links, heater connector leaks, other than that, very highly recommended 😂

This is 2024. These issues are regarding older (2007 back) Volvos.

I just bought a used 2015 XC70 3.2I AWD Platinum with 155K miles. It is loaded with options.
The only warning with this engine (3.2L inline 6 cylinder) when researched was primarily oil use.
I changed the PVC assembly as recommended and found the previous owner had done the same in 2022! Anyway, this is an awesome crossover vehicle! 230HP and 28.5 MPG petrol. Very happy driver ;))

My car exhaust is sputtering.. What do you think the problem would be with that? Also if you know the problem how expensive would it be?
