This title is pure click-bait. I watched it hoping to get an estimate for labor cost estimate for a transmission replacement. In the video Terry states that there are many types of transmission repairs so the cost varies across the possible scenarios. Duh. He gives no price range from low to high nor does he mention price range or average price for each individual job. He doesn't even give his price range or estimate for particular jobs. Instead he mentions Midwest Auto Care and Transmission Center where he works and says to get an estimate for transmission repair/replacement a customer is recommended to visit his workplace for a free inspection. So basically this is a one minute commercial for his company. Somebody so hesitant to quote prices upfront after implying from his video title that labor and part prices may be mentioned is not to be trusted. I smell ridiculously inflated pricing and you will end up paying for Terry's kid's college degree for the priviledge of having personal transportation. Most "professionals" suck as much money as they can get from customers who are in a situation where the need work done urgently to continue existing in a manner comfortable to them. Most of the time their work is subpar. One way to determine this fact is to view the guarantees they provide with each job completion. According to Google the average warranty range for a transmission replacement with a new tranny is 6months/6Kmiles-3years /36Kmiles. With the majority of warranties falling into the 6month-1year category. Please understand that transmissions are expected to last 300Kmiles with proper maintainance which is very infrequent and simple but not cheap if done by a "professional" and 100Kmiles if the transmission maintainance is neglected giving the pros incentive to rob you blind where you basically make their car payments for a year. So these ridiculous warranties can be views as an indicator of a companies confidence in their workers abilities. The other ruse here is the scope of this uninformative click-bait video. His shop is in Indiana so to utilize any information he mentions you need to go to his shop there. Where I live I knew an auto mechanic who did tranny rebuilds and tranny replacement and repair. His name was Philipe' and he had no qualms about guaranteeing his work for the lifetime of the auto. Sadly I lost touch with him. He was working out of his house and had tons of work from customers who were lucky enough to having been exposed to his expertise. Naturally he ascended to a commercial shop on the Southside of town and he also moved houses to that side of town from the Eastside and my efforts to locate his shop were fruitless. Although that was maybe 5 years ago and my searches for his new locale were only made for maybe 6 months from when he relocated. During that time no doubt he was building his rep to new customers and old customers who were lucky enough to have learned his shop location. Unfortunately The last work he did for me was perhaps 7 years ago and we lost touch. He rebuilt the transmission in my Yukon for one thousand bucks which is an extremely fair price because the labor for that job is aeons beyond a repair or replacement labor scenario. He guaranteed his work for as long as I owned my Yukon and so far it's working great and I expect it to last forever. But I need to mention that Philipe' is a fair and expertly skilled Auto Mech. And chances are you aren't going to meet any Philipe's going to some transmission company. Consider replacing the transmission yourself it's pretty simple but it does involve strenuous work and proper procedure adherent with much of the work done under a vehicle that has been elevated mechanically. If you opt for this path you can use the money you save to buy a vacation to Europe or perhaps a Yukon like me.
