That's not a "midair explosion". The flames are from the mortar rockets on the ejection seats. Something went wrong in the jet which made it unrecoverable and the pilots punched out.

Don't let a little research or an inquiry with an expert get in the way of your news reports.

In the news profession, "first" is worth more than "accurate". In this case, you guys get an A for effort, but a solid F for accuracy of info.

There was no "midair explosion." It was the rockets firing from the ejection seats, please do a little bit of research before saying stuff like this or people will begin to believe the wrong stuff. If anything to me it looks like the crash was caused by some sort of hydraulic failure, which the pilots can nothing about except eject.

Could you imagine... sitting on your porch and a plane crashes in your yard.

Crazy. Glad they were ok

You're minding your business doing your thing when all of a sudden an air show plane crashes and kills you or your family because others wanted the thrill. Doesn't seem right but glad no one was killed

Gee, I sure which ANOTHER person would correct this story by telling us that the flames were from the ejection seats. I mean, there are only 33, 505 people before you that said that....

The "explosions" were the smoke from the ejection seats

I wish reporters would learn something before reporting. The first blast is the canopy ejecting. No smoke or sound before that. Just say you don't know at this time. We all know what happens when you assume.

The smoke was the ejector seats, not technically an explosion

Sadly that's why the Soviets didn't fly them very long either - they're terribly designed aircraft.

Why do news people never know what they are talking about

This hurts to see cause it was a mig23 and theres not a lot of those left.

Maaaan this thing came through Arkansas, the other day on its way to Oshkosh. Would’ve really loved to have seen it fly. It also ended up losing its canopy, the other day. Probably should been put down for a while/permanently to do some research on it. Most importantly, glad everyone got out ok.

I’ll be interested in seeing the FAA report, when it comes out.

Either a MIG 23 or 27 can't tell. About had a heart attack thought was an F-111! Not a twin engine so there ya go.

A little research or professional consultation goes a long way. "smoke and flames pouring from the rear of the plane" that's not what that is and grossly exaggerated. The smoke and flames is the ejection system doing it's job. Something else happened here. I'm very curious what the investigation reveals though.
