€2 million buy Ancient Wisdom wins again

The Charlie Appleby-trained Ancient Wisdom made it two wins from as many starts, landing the seven-furlong Novice Stakes at Newmarket.

Ridden by James Doyle, the €2 million purchase made hard work of seeing off his four rivals, but kept on strongly in the closing stages to record a one and three-quarter length success and justify 1/6 favouritism.

Having now defied a penalty, loftier targets will await this exciting two-year-old who remains a fascinating horse going forward for team Godolphin.

Spare us the hype - the performance was not impressive - it was workmanlike.

Basically got to run in another maiden race with none of the other starters owning a win (some didn't even own a prior start); had to be worked on & has an unappealing choppy, high knee action; held off a slight No Nay Never colt going 7 furlongs which was probably a stretch for him first time out; winner looks quite vulnerable next time if he moves into Group company.
