Definitely have to stick with the basics and then build up volume, before advancing to the tricks

People wanna go straight into learning skills when they can’t do 20 push ups. Focus on basics

Got it in one when you said about how going to the gym is a low barrier to entry where as callisthenics requires more work to get started and to progress. I started callisthenics during the pandemic, but as soon as gyms reopened I was back to lifting weights. I now incorporate dips and pull ups into my routine which I never did before.

I really won't quit calisthenics because it's fun and it became a hobby of mine, well i still can do handstand tho but i can do 1 arm push ups and my max reps of normal push ups is 70 i'm still 15 years old so i think that's a good progress.

I'm 280 lbs, 27% body fat and doing calisthenics, kind of, capable of doing wall assisted hand stand push ups, pull ups, assisted front lever via band and ofc weighted dips, still working on my pistol squat though, the point is, theres no excuse why you cant do calisthenics, keep grindin ladies and gents

Whenever you feel like you are going to quit, remember why do you start.

Another great point is the fact that you have to make sure your form is especially correct when doing most of these exercises in comparison to weight lifting. There's a lot more margin for error

True...to a degree tbh. i STARTED with calisthenics lol, then got into weights. Sure with weights u can go super light, but unless you're morbidly obese, you can start with calisthenics BECAUSE you're starting off without added weight. Calisthenics is perfect for beginners!

I started doing 40-50 pull-ups and dips every workout. I do about 70 push-ups every workout. I did strength training for years before that. I feel weak and amateurish when it comes to calisthenics. But I'm going to keep at it!

tbh i do both, primarily weight lifting but I also do assisted pull ups, dips, lots of push ups, knukle push ups, archer push ups, and hanging leg raises

So true. I’m at the beginner level but I can do the basic calisthenics moves so far and people are even impressed by those alone. I got pretty built first though for like a year lifting weights and getting in shape before transitioning to full on body weight workouts and practicing calisthenics. You definitely need a solid base of strength already before you start if you want to get results faster. If I had tried from the start I probably would have been so discouraged by the lack of progress.
