At this level of math, a limited version of the Order of Operations is used. Third grade math doesn't cover parentheses or exponents in equations. That's introduced in fifth grade.
This level covers MDAS, Multiply or Divide, then Add or Subtract.
This video explains the correct order and gives several examples of equations solved with and without the correct order. I show how drastically the answers can vary when they use the wrong order and by not using Order of Operations, their answers will be incorrect.
Because of the way mathematics has been taught and presented in the past, it's important to know this to be successful on standardized tests. #63
