Im Germany we have a similar dessert, its made with apple and is a traditional winterdish you found at christmas markets. Usually they dye the sugar in red so that the apple looks red and delicious

In China it's not dipped in ice water because the weather in winter is minus 30 where it naturally hardens lol classic winter dish around holidays

Honestly, if you just take a strawberry and roll it around in some dry sugar, it will taste exactly the same and it’s a lot easier on your teeth.

haha 糖葫芦. a lil too sweet for me now but really love them so much when I was a kid. its crunchy syrup shell goes well with that bit of sourness from hawthorns, and it goes even better refrigerated.
Glad to see someone sharing how to make it! ❤ from CN

Apparently, you would have made it even numbers amount of the fruits, and use rock sugar/bing tang so it is traditionally called bing tanghulu

Tanghulu is traditionally made with an even amount of fruits but never made with only 4 fruits because in Cantonese and Mandarin it sounds like the word death
