There's been an enormous amount of hate towards this particular scene in Final Fantasy X, and I couldn't be more perplexed as to why that is. The infamous Tidus Laughing Scene is funny, beautiful and deep, and that's what I'm trying to convey in this here video.

when I was younger, I understood the intention of the scene right away, Tidus is creating a forced laugh, he knows it. and he knows it sounds stupid. and he was told, stop" and kept going because he then found it really funny to gauge a response. Then Yuna joins in as everyone cringes. and then they laughed genially after it. It's strange how people can call that laugh poor acting, then somehow ignore the well executed laugh that happend straight after? It was one of the most humanizing scenes all game. and it set up the whole concept of the future whistle Yuna does. It was probably the most important scene all game.

It’s one of my favourite scenes and it’s so sad how misunderstood it is 😭

It felt like you explained something to a grade schooler because it is just so obvious what this scene is about. I must assume people who hate this scene haven't played the game. It's such a good moment.

I thought this was cute and for Tidus and Yuna to air out their grievances and frustrations in a way that it doesn’t need words.

literally every dingus who just does the "voice acting bad 😤" meme always conveniently ignores 1) the legitimate laugh after the fake laugh, and 2) the fact that Wakka makes fun of them right after. Folks have no nuance.

Forcing yourself to laugh actually is a thing that helps. It sounds fake everytime, but after a while you can begin to really laugh, about the situation, how embarassing and fake it is, and because it kinda is fun to fake laugh.

Idk how can it be confusing. I mean i’m not even English, but it’s so clear. I know every word, It’s always been one of my favourite scene, and in some way I literally link the concept of love to this scene. I mean, look at them. Wow.

Why It's hard to understand this?
They never been in same position before in real life?

Never understood how much hate this scene gets for being "cringe" and stuff even though it's one of my favorite scenes in the entire game and it has a lot of meaning behind it

For a guy with 700 views, your point is better than most of the comments under the uploads of the scene.

Even as somebody who didn't like FFX, I understood it instantly: it's a sarcastic, almost malicious, deliberately bad effort laugh because laughing is the absolute last thing he feels like doing at this moment in time but somebody's trying to make him. The bit where Yuna, understanding where he's coming from, joins in out of solidarity is _awesome._

The fact most of the game's own fans didn't get this speaks to the average intelligence of somebody who likes FFX (I jest, but all the same it needs a remake bad because the cutscenes, which cannot be skipped, are so poorly executed.) At least those who only have it out of context have said lack of context as an excuse.

I am utterly stunned that so few people got it. It seemed obvious to me.

People who don't understand this probably ship Naruto with Sakura.

You're just not intelligent enough, if you don't get the scene.

Yeah, I feel like the persistent reaction to this scene is largely due to the fact that this game was largely initially played by pre-teens who both couldn't comprehend the emotional nuance leading up to it, coupled with the the fact that English dubs of Japanese properties at the time were notorious for being of poor quality, so people latched on to the idea that any "weird" take in an English dub was just due to bad acting. Almost nobody bothered to listen to the original Japanese dub to see that it played out the EXACT SAME WAY.

I hate how people state FFX would have bad voice acting and going by that particular laugh clip as their reasoning. Great that people like you are properly setting things straight. It's a really cute scene showing how Tidus' and Yuna's relation is growing and quite wholesome in how both are caring for each other.

Thank you for this video. Some sanity with this scene is a breath of fresh air. It's a wonderful scene within a masterpiece of a game.

It's the opposite of bad acting... there are so many nuances within his acting in this scene (and the whole game) that make up for some of the best voice acting I've ever heard. To name just a couple: before he starts the fake laugh, he takes a deep breath in, sighs, and then takes another deep breath in before beginning the fake laugh. You can hear a bit of skepticism and defeat in that sigh, as if he's almost saying "this is crazy....well, here goes nothing, I guess". Another nuance is the last "HA" on the last "row" of fake laugh right before Yuna joins in; you can hear in that last "HA" a sense of relief. Almost like if you screamed or vent out to someone about something big in your life, which starts giving you that release and making you feel better-- you almost do a bit of an "AAAAH" in relief of letting it all out.

All that subtext from just "HA HA HA HA HA". It's crazy.

My personal take: Yuna was trying to be Tidus' "Shining light" or "Ray of light, " (per se) in his dark times, when he's down deep in thought, or has nothing else to do when he's "powerless." after what tidus has gone through during their journey in FFX. Yuna acknowledges that Tidus' troubled times are indeed a struggle, but tries to force Tidus to just LET IT ALL OUT. Let al that negativity out and bring in that positivity in. Which is why Yuna said she wanted her life to be full of laughter. Which is healthy. No one wants to carry a burden for the rest of the lives, right? WE'RE HUMANS, DAMNIT. (That's what I personally took from this laughing scene by comparing my own life! Feel free to point out any errors!) I'd be utterly glad to have someone force me to do the laughing scene too, haha! :D Tbh, FFX was my one and only favorite FF game, and I'm just starting a new save file on my PS4! I've beaten Seymour Natus and now heading to Mt. Gagazet!

When this game came out I was 14 years old and I never thought this scene was cringe because I already understood it with my stupid teenager brain.
I always got kinda angry when people used this as a meme since it was either misunderstood or viewed out of context by people who never played it.
