I like how Boris threatens the pilot with death if he doesn't obey, but Legasov straight up threatens him with something worse than death if he does obey lol.

Considering the radiation on the roof completely killed the clearing robots later... Wouldn't flying directly over the exposed core the day after the explosion probably cause the helicopter electronics to fail?

Legasov is always exaggerating. Flying over the exposed reactor would have had mild effects on their health... not great not terrible
