I grew some basil under my tomato plants last year and that basil grew all year without flowering! I was able to get about four or five cuts from it, vs the stuff I planted on my patio was mostly one and done. I'm going to continue to plant more and more basil under my plants that provide shade because the basil doesn't mind it at all. Same goes for cilantro!

let some basil flower near your other garden plants as they bring in the pollinators. save the seeds for sprouts in winter salads and noodle/starch/potato dishes. keep up the good info. love your content.

i have 2 basil plants from last year i brought in and they are almost 2 feet tall, single stems. i think i will chip the tops off and try to start cloning them.

Great information! Gardening in south Florida, trying to keep away the blotch leaf miners from my basil, any ideas? I am working on companion plants like Alyssum, etc., but wondering if you know of anything in particular. Thanks!

My basil plants do not have any nodes. They only have a continuous pair of leaves along the stem.
