Stamp duty is already a random, disgusting tax-grab.
When I bought my current home around a decade ago, the £2500ish I had to hand over from my already heavily taxed income really p155ed me off.
Who does it go to? Why is it necessary to punish people who want to own their home?

Rachel Reeves gets £3151 per WEEK and claimed £4000 heating allowance. Pensioners getting over £218 per week can’t get winter fuel allowance. Labour MPs are OK so they don’t care about anyone else. It was a difficult decision to take money from pensioners rather than reduce MP perks wasn’t it.

£2k is definitely a lot of money when you know it will, without a shadow of a doubt, be pissed up the wall by Liebour 😂

They just want to make us poorer. The UK is going to continue to decline, its not going to improve, just sealing my decision tk flee this country eventually. Looking to set up an offshore business in Jersey for my investments to try avoid these CGT increases, etc.

If the government stopped spending money they didn't have we wouldn't be in this mess!

The more you show you have the more they will take, the more you love something a Car, a Drink the more you will pay, car owners would pay £10 a gallon to not wait for the bus and are an easy money GRAB always !!

i am now in my late fifties and ive worked all my life, I have come to the conclusion that I can expect nothing and wont be able to afford to retire at all goes to show you are just a statistic - not an individual. We are heading to be the most taxed country in the world - probably due to Net Zero debacle.

You can't grow the economy if people in that economy have no money to spend due to excessive taxes.

When you go to work, earn money and pay your tax there is no financial risk to you personally. Just your time and effort. When you invest xou pay tax on gains and there is always the potential for personal financial loss. If the tax rates are similar, where is the incentive to invest which incurs a financial risk?

If they hammer capital gains tax people will take what they have and cash out to become none contributors to bridge the gap to retirement, they won’t want to take risks anymore.
Landlords will increase rents to compensate for capital gains bills in the future.
Property owners will sell equity to company’s rather than leave it to inheritance tax, so the state will have to look after them in the future.

My daughter has to work overtime, paying a marginal rate of 37% on a 27k basic salary.
Compare that with the rates paid by Starmer and Sunak at <25% on declared incomes of around 500k and 2.2million!

I hope those who hold cryptocurrencies in the UK realise that they could be liable for CGT if they sell or trade crypto. So if the budget does drastically increase CGT, it won't just be the uber wealthy that will be affected. HMCR I believe are taking much more interest in cryptocurrencies these days and exchanges that operate in the UK by law have to supply information about customer sales, etc activity to HMRC.

Transferring crypto between spouses doesn't incur CGT however, so can be a good way to use you and your partners CGT allowances and tax bands to lower any owed tax.

Thanks for the update. I’m thinking of buying a Victorian house in 2025 after the crash

I could be hit by capital gains increases but would rather navigate that once it happens rather than do something now based on rumors and guesswork

Surely streamlining spending and cutting waste would help. There’s plenty of that

But it seems like the state must get bigger!

I think it needs to be clarified that Iht allowances only relate to direct dependents/children, or have I misunderstood?

Why couldn't Labour just say 'We didn't agree with Conservatives decision to reduce NI by 2%. This country cannot afford that so we are putting it back to what it was'
