Rachel Reeves is expected to unveil a black hole in the public finances of around £20 billion, signalling that tax rises could be on the way.

The Chancellor will on Monday set out the results of the spending audit she ordered Treasury officials to produce.

Her update will reveal “the true scale of the damage the Conservatives have done to the public finances”, a Labour source said.

Former Deputy Chairman Of the Conservative Party Jonathan Gullis joins Talk’s Alex Phillips to discuss this further.

Only 20 billion. WE already borrow 10 billion plus a month. This figure is therefore a lie. It's what we expect for this Lab/tory country. No surprises, just a hope that 2029 will come soon.

MP wages should be capped at 5x the minimum wage( x40 hours per week), likewise with expenses capped at 30% of the wages. if you want to go above that limit, then you have to raise the minimum wage.
as for buying a new home, that is up to you. You should sell your home and move for the job etc( it what others in the private sector have to do). no special treatment because you should live with same issues as us. Also no subsidised canteen, especially when we have food banks.
if you are really upset about the accommodation issue, then civil service can buy a block of flats nearby and rent them out to MPs at a subsidized rate, but you only get a property based on the LA housing rules( so Westminster LA housing rules). It will be small and not luxurious. again you live the same way the public have to live. don't like it? quit the job...
no subsidy for transport. you either get a car and pay the ulez and congestion charge or go on public transport. again when MPs cause misery to the population, the you should share the consequences..
Offices and accompanying staff will be provided to MPs by the civil service from their diverse pool of "talent"...

I can tell you, when I worked in Qatar I had a good friend who was an Indian, to cut a long story short, we talked about qualification paper's, and he pulled the draw open and he said 'name what do you want qualification papers for, nurse, care worker, electrician, lawyer you name it I can get it for you for a fee. that is true.

The Bond markets are not gonna allow Reeves to borrow.... They are gonna have to raise taxes for their spending pledges.

Public sector pay is lower than private sector pay. What labour should do is increase public sector pay just in line with private sector pay so that public salary is equivalent to private salary.
