Funny you mention that. I monitor and throw out my call almost every time I get in the Taco. I live in the heart of WV and 52 is silent. However I hear daily usage of GMRS. But today I got two .520 simplex during POTA activation. Nearly fainted

Started with my GMRS and took my Technician test at the Texoma Hamarama today and passed 100%, even saw you while i was there! Driving home definitely had some decent GMRS traffic going on in the storm warning of cars of the side of the road.

I don’t pick up much on my CB anymore either. There’s some chatter but nothing like it was. I have a GMRS license to and I think I’m going to put one in my truck.

I have both licenses but here in Honolulu, many hams can’t remember their two mile long GMRS Call Signs, so they just use their ham call signs. I’m guilty of doing that also. 🤣🇺🇸🤣😂

Not many frequencies for GMRS, but a much lower barrier to entry, so it's filling up fast. Too bad so many hams are dicks. The ham hobby needs to be more attractive, and the FCC needs to lighten up.

I drive a truck between Beaumont and Houston and other places. I have a CB and gmrs in my truck. I still do hear some CB talk and the gmrs talk I hear is usually repeater talk on networks.

I have been told to stay off of 146.52 because its a 'calling channel'. When I was a kid they called it the National Simplex Frequency. Somebody changed it and killed it.

A couple of times a year I drive back and forth from DFW to Baltimore (~1300 miles each way) and I also hear more on GMRS but it's not usually truckers. Most of the time I never hear anything on .52 during my trips.

The Southwest Community Radio System has linked Repeaters in Colorado. Mainly in AZ and NM but we do have users in Colorado too. You really want to hear alot of traffic travel thru Tucson, AZ or Albuquerque, NM. The repeaters in Albuquerque are excellent. I know you mentioned Simplex.

Why do I find the FCC website almost impossible to navigate through? I found trying to do the right thing almost impossible. So far, impossible!

Were there any main gmrs channels you were hearing the truckers on?

I hear so many repeaters on GMRS in NY and system island but none of them are published.

I drove from AZ to Nc to Fl actively calling on .52, never heard a soul.

I live in mn and the only time I hear anyone on gmrs, it's children (frs). Occasional out of town, I'll hear farmers. I never hear truckers on gmrs

I live in Colorado, it seems like there are too many ham radio repeaters. Everyone wants one as their private channel. In my city there are a few clubs, none have their own repeater they supportand not associated with red cross or a fire department. Most meet at a restrunt. Though a few years ago, I would always put a call out on the way home. There was one guy that usually responded. Hear people say they will hear calls but nevers say hi.

I lived over seas for 8 years and returned right before an election. People were talking, politics and some other things that are not appropriate to talk about with someone you just met. Then there has been music, people jamming each other. Maybe I was just oblivious to it in the 90s. I love ham radio, but it isn't the same. Unfortunately I will listen for a bit, then turn it off because of some crazyness.
