I love your videos. They present a lot of information that I would otherwise miss in a very concise yet easy to understand manner. Thanks again!

I just applied for my GMRS license yesterday. Been a licensed Ham for 13 years. I figured it would be good for the family to keep in touch.

Good video, I too am both ham & gmrs licensed. If or when a massive failure of the "grid" occurs, a lot of radio ops will be busy. Too bad everyone isn't prepared

CB is still very active in my area of SoCal. My CB basestation setup can get out 30+ miles.

When I was young we used to have CB's and on Friday and Saturday nights we would have what we called T- hunts, one guy would go and hide ( using a empty channel, rubber band the mic and play music) and the rest of us would use triangulation to find them , we all had 4x4's and most of the guy's would hide in the hills we had load of fun, God I miss those day's.

You can program the Baofeng manually. It takes a few days and videos to figure it out, especially when programming repeater frequencies needed. The programing cable is a MUST to have, but do learn to do it manually for emergencies where you may not have a PC to use. I bought a laptop especially for SHTF that I load with necessary software (CHIRP included) and information such as guides on First Aid, hygiene, etc. I take it out every couple of weeks to update and program my radios, including mobile radios. I bought an inexpensive laptop from Walmart. Relatively new chip, decent screen etc. I figure I will try and use it when going to digital radio/advanced uses down the road as I learn more and more.

I'm not techy but I've had a ham radio for years and managed to program it myself. Good investment. We get a lot of electrical blackouts in California.

You could use a professional grade GMRS Walki Talki’s . With my radios I can talk receive and transmit 1-2 miles in any direction. That’s with 2watt GMRS radios using stock antenna.
Once I get my GMRS base station and set a high gain antenna the range will increase

When I was young I was presented with the opportunity to get a hands on with ham radios and I didn't take the opportunity that was presented. Very foolish. In my older age, I would be very interested in learning more and possibly getting a ham radio license. I really enjoyed this link. Thank you.

Our texting was packet radio many many years ago. I had a regular schedule packet communication with a Russian lady daily. This was back in 1986 :) Amateur Radio will still have it's followers for the hobby of it. Back when I first licensed it had five levels. at extra class (of which I and my wife are) had to be able to do 20 wpm cw.
Not necessary now.

I have got some GMRS /FRS two-way radios that will work for a couple of miles around.
I also saw that those can be coupled with a modem on the internet and comunicate by radio via internet.

What effect would Electromanetic Pulse have on the radios and repeaters?
Would loss of electrical grid affect the repeaters?

Great info, , , , but what if the repeaters fail, ., , I personally like the citizens band radio, , , I have talked everywhere on these 26- and 27 mhz bands, , , with just 4 watts, , , other countries to, , , , win the right antenna, you have unlimited possibilities, , , those radios are fine but the people are few, , , the more information you can get in your area the better off you will be, , , , in my area cb radio is everywhere
