Full immersion... take your boots off when you enter your base and expect it of all your guests.

“British Man Gets Xp” is the sequel to “British Man Murders xB” we didn’t know we needed.

To be honest, the torii gate leading to not-a-temple screams cyberpunk dystopian future. That's sort of central to the whole thing is that there is nothing held sacred anymore.

Fun fact, the Gate, or the Torii in Japanese, are used as an entrance to Shinto shrines, or just a mystical world, so it really fits to such a marvellous Minecraft base

I think I'm desensitized because I've been watching Joel for quite a few years now, but I'm just now realizing how insane he must seem to new people. He's already got a good chunk of a town started on only episode 5, all of the buildings having a crazy amount of detail, him being rather rambunctious and kind of crazy around other people with a weird and fun personality, and him blowing up someone's entire base with like 70 TNT to kill him and immediately apologizing and rebuilding it. Like, he's crazy, and I love him for it

Edit: I love seeing all of the people who are new here or catching up on old series- welcome welcome! It's wonderful having you here! And for those of you saying this is normal Hermitcraft behavior- please know I've never watched Hermitcraft or any of these other peoples' videos! I just know Joel! I'm not trying to compare anyone, simply shine light on how hyper our Bean Boy is!

Hey Joel! I gave this suggestion to Impulse so I'm here for you too: Wax your signs! Unwaxed signs contribute to a significant amount of lag, so waxing them with honeycomb will help a ton! Ask Tango for some honeycomb; I'm sure he'll be fine with sharing some.

I took 2 years of Japanese in Highschool, and it's a complicated language. Google does a pretty decent job for simple translation but don't rely on it for sentences; they're not always the most accurate.

Still feels surreal watching Joel on Hermitcraft. I've been watching both independently for years, to see them collide is fundamentally warping my worldview.

British man gets XP is my favorite classic film. I’m glad they colorized it

Joel is so British he accidentally made a fish and chip shop

I love how Joels base is starting to feel like a densely built japanise street with the tight labyrinth style alleyways and buildings that look like they were all made in diffrent times. Others may find it messy or clautrophopic but i really enjoy the cozy feeling it gives me

I can’t speak for people who actively practice Shinto Faith, I did do research to design a Shinto shrine for a project once though. And the research from doing that project, I learned that shrines and Tori Gates, in general, were markers of where spirits resided, so while Tori gates are yes used for marking where shrines are. It’s also because it’s marking where spirits reside. The scale of a tori is also traditionally, much smaller than what you’ve built here. However, it also makes me think that this shrine is for spirits and for people who are really big and need a doorway to accommodate that space :-)

For those who have read this far, the large amount of information I learned came from the scholar Stuart DB Pickens !

If you haven't named the town yet, you could call it アホー市 (ahōshi). The shi at the end just means city, while the ahō part is identical to the first letters of the katakana word for axolotl, but can also mean idiot/moron.

by the 1:30 minute mark you managed to:
- do the intro

- call the viewers smelly stinky fools
- do a bit asking for people to subscribe
- kill a piglin
- farm XP
- upgrade armor and tools
- plan the construction of a road to get up and down the mountain

... that's intense. And I love it

Hi Joel, as someone who is Japanese and follows Shinto Buddhism, thank you for incorporating it into your build. All of the Japanese were technically correct, but axolotl in Japan is usuallyウーパールーパー (uupaa ruupaa), which would be funny if you referred your axolotls as your workers/ your Oompa Loompas. The translation you used is also correct, but has a slightly less positive meaning since アホ (aho) means stupid with a negative context. Both fit your humor so go at it 👍

Every veteran hermit besides doc: "I think we should go a bit slower this season"

Joel: "gorgeous Japanese town go brrr"

Honestly, Joel just make a shrine to go with the tori gate because we all know you’re gonna start a cult sometime this season 😭

Torii gates, means that from beyond that point is the territory of a god. Pretty cool if you consider the fact that joel was a god in empires
