DJI Mavic Mini 2 Is Coming? My New Features Wish List

So there are some pretty strong rumors going around that we could possibly see a new Mavic Mini 2 in early November. It's been one year since DJI released the original Mavic Mini and there definitely are some areas where some upgrades would be welcome. In this video, I go over some of the features I would like to see added to the DJI Mavic Mini 2. Just remember these are just rumors, do not base any purchase decision on a rumor.

I really hope that they put sensors on it and put follow me mode onto it.

More reliable distance, 4k resolution, quieter motors, at least some basic avoidance sensors.

When the original mavic mini came in India there was a hype because it was an excellent drone less than 250g it was for 200 bucks extra but loads of people bought it hope dji comes with the same price in India as in other countries

Literally the only thing I'd like to see in the 2nd version is more powerful motors not to be afraid of that extra gust 👌🙂

All great points Sean! I doubt we'll see any more sensors or quick release props because of weight. Also without obstacle avoidance, I doubt they'll include active track. I'll be happy with 4K 30FPS and a little more power in the motors.

Even if they can't implement occusync 2.0, then 1.0 would be a great benefit in its own.

Hello

As I believe that the driver for the Mini 2 are the new EASA rules coming into effect in January 1st 2021, I expect the Mini 2 coming up before the end of the year. The sales will start before the holidays shopping season in the US.

The reason why DJI needed a new Mini is because the current do not comply with the C0 EASA class and if sold after January 1st it would be a C1 class drone, same as MA2, losing its 249gr advantage, To comply with the C0 class DJI needed to maintain the 249gr weight and make some hardware and controller changes.

The sensor of the Mini is capable of 4K30, like on the M1P, but was kept to 2.7K due to overheat caused by lack of cooling. To increase the transfer speed to at least to 60 Mps (as in the M1P) to be able to handle the 4K, DJI needed to add a cooling system to the airframe. This will add some weight as I will explain later.

I believe that DJI will add frontal OA, as in the Spark, to enable Activ Track on the Mini. DJI has stated in the past that AT would not be on the Mini due to the lack of OA. This will add some weight to the airframe too.

The new battery will be made from a different battery technology with a higher voltage 7.7V instead of 7.2V on the Mini 1 and a lower capacity 2250 mAh instead of the 2400 mAh on the Mini 1. This may hint a smaller and lighter battery cell, altough the battery will be the same size, that will save weight for the added hardware that I mentioned above.

Occusync may be possibility because if DJI uses the MA2 controller can comply with the C0 class requirements without the need to modify the Mini 1 controller or develop a new one for the Mini 2.

Lastly, I have heard that the Mini 2 will have a 15% price increase in relation with the Mini 1. With occusync is more than justifiable to switch drone.

I will stick with my current Mini 1 until the transition period for legacy drones expire in December 31st 2022.

Please note that any Mini 2 sold in Europe until the new rules and without the C class marking will be a legacy drone as my Mini 1 after December 31st 2020.

I currently own a Mini 1. What a great little drone. If the Mini 2 just adds 4k, that will not be enough for me to trade up. For me, 4 k just means bigger files and would involve an upgraded computer to manage, more storage, more memory etc. etc. No need for Ocusync, it can fly far enough as it is. What would entice me to trade up would be Obstacle sensors, USB-C, tracking and Headless mode & add many of the Spark features. If they intro new batteries, then they better be lighter to allow to add more hardware like sensors. It’s an entry level drone so take away the crashing anxiety and let me enjoy this new activity. Faster recharge time would be nice . More storage space for a few accessories in the FlyMore case. Must remain under 250 grams as I have no interest in licence & registration. The Mavic Air 2 features need to be a step up so If I have to register and get a licence, it better be really worth my time and trouble. Mavic Mini 2 needs to be idiot proof so beginners can enjoy but within a limited range. That is what will get new people on board and later move up to better product.

Agree a new zone is on the way. I've heard through trial and error that once you see tech in Costco it's only a short time before a new version comes out. Go Pro 8 was in Costco and then boom the Hero 9 was released. Ring Alarm had a great deal at Costco and all of a sudden boom new Ring Alarm products released. Same with Arlo security cameras. Now I see the Mavic Mini in Costco for a while now hence I knew something had to be brewing.

Tracking, 4K, exposure control, flat mode

As a photographer I need RAW capability and the ability to do burst photography (5 frames at least).

I don’t need active track, but a real Point of Interest option would be good. Obviously better range. Pano shots would be great. Rear sensors would be great.

Does mavic mini has 'follow me'..options...and rotate 360° on the fly mode?

If the just gave it 4k video and the same features my Spark had I would be happy. That means 360 panorama photos, Active Track, forward obstacle avoidance, the intelligent flight modes, and quick release props. Then keeping the long flight of 30 minutes and the 249 g weight from the original Mavic Mini would make it a sure buy for me. Oh, and maybe just a slightly more powerful or efficient motor would be good too.

I would love Occusync but I doubt DJI would go that far. That would cut into the Mavic Air 2 category.

I just got the Mini so it’s unlikely I’d upgrade but front obstacle avoidance would be nice.

Pretty much hit all the marks I had. Still be 249gm, same price as Mini, have some sort of obstacle avoidance, new controller, better signal, and more quick shot options. I don’t mind 2.7k but I’ll welcome 4k option.

Wish more powerful motors to withstand stronger winds, better wifi connectivity, active track feature, more stronger built to withstand crashes and better prop built to minimize deformation in storage. Thanks!

Wouldn’t be a little too soon for a Mini 2?
