The Ultimate Concept Art Tutorial

Learn how to make concept art in this concept art tutorial, help bring your ideas to life with challenges along the way!

Concept art is about taking an idea and making it a reality with visual design, in this concept art tutorial, I show you how I create concept art and finished rendered work, with challenges along the way - to help teach concept art for beginners with a set workflow. Maybe this could be your first step to becoming a concept artist!

We first look at ideas, and how to generate them for your concept art, then we look at how to use references and how effective referencing can be in concept art, before moving onto some iterative concept designs and finally finishing off to a final concept art piece. In the video I also take you through a more rendered environment concept art piece, showing my full process from thumbnails, to value rough, to colour rough, to sketch, to final environment design - as well as giving tips on various art topics throughout, such as: perspective, value studies, non-destructive workflows with masking, and light rays!

This is the best one stop beginner concept art tutorial I’ve seen, I’ve seen plenty already and non explains better than this one, when I first learnt to do concept art I had to find like 100 or so videos to compete the collection, but this is perfect for beginners, thank you saul!

This is nuts because I’ve been trying to figure out how exactly I’m gonna do pixel concept art for my own game ideas and stuff and this is literally like exactly what I needed. also for people who can't make ideas: a good advice i got is this: if you don't feel inspired, you can experiment with already existing ideas and mush them into one you think sounds good. i get my raw ideas from role-playing with rpgs

My best way for generating ideas is playing RPG - developing your character and seeing it evolve through the course of sessions gives you a solid idea, on how you would like to show it to other people, and what story and scars they are carrying
