What is the Federalist Society?

Показать описание
The Federalist Society for Law and Public Policy Studies is a group of conservatives and libertarians interested in the current state of the legal order. It is founded on the principles that the state exists to preserve freedom, that the separation of governmental powers is central to our Constitution, and that it is emphatically the province and duty of the judiciary to say what the law is, not what it should be. The Society seeks both to promote an awareness of these principles and to further their application through its activities

No mention of the Kochs and Mercers? Their own website has an upcoming discussion of is stopping abortion really limiting women's equality. And conservative means religious.

Nice whitewash video though.

My understanding is that the Society wants religion embedded into government. They also are heavily involved with corporations. This film seems optimistic and uplifting. But recent speeches given to the Federalist Society by now Attorney Barr describes a much more narrow view than debating perspectives and leans heavily into breaking rules or accepted constitutional principles to accomplish a goal.

Shouldn't it be called the anti federalist society if it was honest about what it wants?

Why isn’t it called the Constitutionalist Society as opposed to the Federalist Society?

Generally, federal applies to the government, and the Federalist Party of old wanted the centralization of big government……

Let us forget about politics and money for a moment and consider a topic for discussion and debate: Dead zones.

Oh, you never of "dead zones"?

Alright, let me fill you in on the basic facts: Dead zones are areas within a body of water that cannot support life because of 02 depletion. Dead zones are primarily found at mouths of rivers and coastal waters of industrialized nations, but can also be found in lakes and ponds too. The 02 depletion is primarily due to algae blooms caused by excess fertilizers and chemical pollutants which run off into rivers. They can be seasonal and natural in nature. But biologists have determined that the majority of dead zones are primarily the result of human activity. Dead zones are a danger because of the obvious: All life within the dead zone dies if it cannot get away fast enough. Hence, the "dead zone".

Dead zones were first discovered in the 1950's, I believe. What is very concerning though is, despite gradual improvements in the "proper handling" of waste water, dead zones are getting larger, lasting longer and are considerably more numerous. (Researchers believe there is causality between the increase in the number of dead zones and the increase in global temperatures). There are hundreds of documented cases around the world.

My questions are:
1. Is this something the Federalist Society might care about?
2. If not, why not?
3. If the Federalist Society can care about dead zones, what's the solution, if any, to reversing the problem?
4. If the Federalist Society can care about dead zones and believes there could be a solution and agrees the problem is a global one -- which it is -- what's the global solution?

I'm looking forward to answers, hopefully.

Edit: Oh great; I just noticed I'm engaging with a 9 year old Youtube video! I guess the Federalist Society isn't currently relevant as I thought it was.

We are a Republic not a democracy. Every state needs to regain their power to regulate their state. Each State in United States of America should govern their state. For the people by the people.

Is the lack of racial diversity in this video a reflection of the law profession more broadly or the federalist society in particular?

Have you men and women even read Hamilton? The father of the Federalist Papers and the 'American School' (the original Federalist Society) was proto-FDR on steroids.

Why conservatives if they are promoting freedom? Classical liberals were not conservatives.
