In this new and latest reaction video, foreigners Sabine and Roger react to King Ashoka the Great - Rise of the Mauryan Empire Documentary by Kings and Generals. Another great introduction to Indian history with its Mysticism, Spirituality, Religion and Kingdoms, Legacy, Contributions, Dynasty, Battle. The Kalinga War was fought in ancient India between the Maurya Empire under Ashoka and the state of Kalinga, an independent feudal kingdom located on the east coast, in the present-day state of Odisha and northern parts of Andhra Pradesh. The information in this animated story in english is well researched. The life of the emperor changed radically over time. The ruler turned towards Buddhism and Compassion. He was a leader and warrior upholding justice and spreading the Buddha Dhamma.

The Third Century BC was a notoriously violent time, filled with titanic clashes and amazing personalities. Alexander ’s conquests gave way to a period of constant warfare amongst his Seleucid, Ptolemaic and Antigonid successors, while the rising Roman juggernaut began a series of conquests to unite the Italian Peninsula, and fought its Carthaginian Rival, paving the way for future dominance. India during this period was also experiencing revolutionary change, which culminated in the rise of the Mauryan Empire and the reign of Ashoka the Great.

Spirtuality is making an action that is needed. When someone is hungry, feeding them is spirtual. When someone is trying to kill a harmless child, stopping him/ her is spirtual. When someone is thirsty, offering water is spirtual. So vishnu incarnated on different times with different context to uphold one thing...dharma. The situations I described earlier is dharma. At time of Ram, evil men kept on conquering places and torturing civilians, trying to make good values disappear. So vishnu incarnated as Ram to put an end to it so that good values prevail. At the time Krishna evil men conquered the society against morality which made good values disappear slowly. Vishnu incarnated as Krishna and put an end to it. Then he spread the values once again. At the time of Buddha values were distorted. So Vishnu incarnated as Buddha to show the right path. There was no war necessary because at the time of Buddha evil was not at its peak like the previous era. It was a time of distortion of values. So Buddha showed a proper path.He established dharma. All these incarnations had one thing in common. Upholding dharma. Dharma is the highest quality. The wellbeing of life is directly proportional to the quantity of people following dharma. Thats all the three incarnations tried to protect dharma by whatever means necessary.

Ashoka never converted to Buddhism
Cause at that time there was no Hinduism or Buddhism
There was just spiritual teachers and spirituality was part of life
After the war he followed gurus who followed guru gautam Buddha !

🙏 I too happen to be from Kalinga. Ashoka the great indeed became a great Emperor after change in heart. His self-realization of mistakes without help or guidance from any one and the way he changed himself is what made him unique according to me! Not just he changed his nature, but also presented himself to be a benevolent, compassionate and righteous emperor is just amazing. 🙂.
Thanks Jai Jagannath, Jai sri Krishna, Jai maa Radha, Glory to Jesus, Jai Sri Ram, Jai Maa Sita, Om namah Shivaya, jai maa durga, jai maa saraswati, jai maa kali, Jai sri Ganesh, Jai Buddha, Respect to lord Bramha. 🙏

0:12 Oh my gosh, I felt so shy & I don't know why xD

Thanks a lot for this upload! It seems that after the seeming ugliness of the first part of the video you two enjoyed the higher consciousness, truths shared in the rest of the video. I'm glad it turned out this way because I wanted to share something that first and foremost you would enjoy watching and also something that would highlight spiritual truths to the, apparently, majority Indian Audience.

The best part is the long discussion you two had over it, I think the audience benefits a lot and I appreciate it so much!

Alas, the comment section seems to be polarized with people either focusing on the misdeeds of Ashoka or those recognizing the incredible value of realization and commitment to change for the sake of Truth. And to be fair, it is a display of different consciousness levels of people which brings me to my understanding of things.

From the way I understand things with relation to True Spirituality, dharma is the willingness to do what needs to be done instead of naïve passivity, that being said the stories of Ramayana and Bhagavad Gita were from different times with different values and culture which cannot be judged by the values & culture of today.

The Ramayana calibrates at 810 & Bhagavad Gita at 930. So it is safe to say that there is a great deal of truth in them but with the context of people from that era doing what they thought was correct too.

Another thing to keep in mind is that we, unfortunately, do not have all the context and will most likely never have it. I'll share Dr. David's teaching here as best as I can from memory.

In one video clip he said that in a certain context killing is absolutely wrong and cannot be done while in another context it is absolutely necessary and must be done. In a example he gave while calling from past life memory was when he gored a "enemy" warrior in the groin with his spear but then did not administer the coup de grace which lead to failure of his duty as a warrior to another in ending the man's suffering. (He also said that the consequence of this karmic inaction was for him to suffer excruciating pain in a surgery without anesthesia in this lifetime.)

In another case where he was questioned about his choice of food (steak) he reaffirmed in that killing is bad but if he and other people stopped eating steak then there wouldn't be a market for the cows and hence the many cows that are being bred, raised and taken care of wouldn't even be existing in the form of cow presently.

So, from the above mentioned examples I suppose it's clear that context is king, as always. Well, I wish I had a more clear concise answer/guidance but its best for me to admit, I don't know xD

Again, I thank you two so much for this video!

39:25 And I love the both of you, too! I might even say so much so that the source of love is beyond yet flowing through me towards you! XD

Ashoka after winning the fierce battle against Kalinga (the ancient name of Odisha the eastern most state of India now)was so happy that he asked everyone to fulfill their wishes out of his happiness. One old woman asked to bring back her son who lost his life in the war, and from this point he was transformed from chandasoka to Dharmashoka.

Sweet Sabine there is something in bhagwad geeta : To establish dharma we have to have Shaastra(VED, Upanishad’s) in one hand and shastra (weopen)in another hand …this is necessary and …I love that update and I got to know about this why and ROGER you got this you are right she needs to read bhagwad geeta

Non violence does not mean pacificm. This is a very common misunderstanding. War and killing are sometimes justified. Even Ashoka threatened Tribal savages with violence. Samurai were Buddhist. Buddha did not preach pacificm which is as bad as aggression
