The thing that got me was when R2 said That Anakin stopped talking to him. Which was sad. Since Anakin always talked to R2. Showed how careless Anakin turned.

R2-D2 is been through so much stuff and is maybe the oldest astromech in legends

I’ve always felt that the story of the Skywalkers was being told through the eyes of R2D2. He’s the only consistent character throughout the Saga.

R2 was on the front lines of the clone wars, the jedi purge, and the galactic civil war, only being a simple astromech droid. That little guy has been through so much.

R2D2 is the only being that knew the whole story. Being there from so early on in Anakin's history all the way to the present films. He is my Hero and will be remembered as the greatest droid ever built

And in the ESB novel, Luke notices that R2 is anxious whenever he’s told to stay with the ship.

What if R2-D2 played back the whole recording with Padame and Anakin to himself over and over because he is unable to calculate what has gone wrong with Anakin?

I think R2 liked Luke so much because it reminded him of the true Anakin he once knew

Discovering what R2 finally revealed to Luke, Leia and Jacen in Dark Nest trilogy was so emotional and compelling. I love the original EU and how well it kept continuity.
