I believe, as many others believe, that Qui-Gon could have prevented Anakin's fall to darkness, even where nobody else could have. I beleive this is because Qui-Gon embraces the Living Force in a way that few others of his time - even Yoda - would choose. I see Qui-Gon as the Jedi Who Loves.

Had Qui-Gon survived Maul, he would have taught Anakin the correct way to love others, to come to terms with their passing/seperation, and to teach Anakin how to love himself and become healed and whole through that self-love and acceptance, so that he may become the man he was always, TRULY meant to be. Especially so when Anakin felt unloved by the Order he called his home and brotherhood.

That is why he loved people in such selfish, possessive ways. He was looking for validation and self-love through others by demonstrating how much HE cared about them.

Fun fact. Ashoka was a Jedi longer than anakin. Not including rebels. From the moment she was taken to the temple - order 66 was longer than anakins time as a Jedi
