You should also add a bit of water so it doesn’t get stiff in the hand mixer!! That’s what we do when pounding rice in Japan to make it silky and smooth

When you don’t have a stand mixer so you have to mix for 40 minutes by hand😀

Note:- if it's not going well when you're kneading it or the machine is (like if it's not becoming a dough or blending well) IT MOST LIKELY BECAUSE IT GOT COLD!! so heat it up whenever the rice gets cold!, 30 seconds!, It helped me a lot because I was becoming really upset and losing hope into making this one work ITS SO STRETCHY AND CHEWY I

Edit:- I FORGOT TO MENTION THAT IT SHRINKS, SO IF YOU ADDED 1 CUP YES ITLL DOUBLE INTO 2 CUPS BUT ITLL SHRINK BACK AGAIN INTO 1 CUP!

After days of trying, I didn’t make a success of the Japanese recipe, but today I tried the Korean version and I ground the rice before steaming and it was a success! I finally FINALLY made good and chewy homemade rice cakes!
Thanks a lot for this video! I’ve been looking for this recipe for almost a year now 🙃 the other recipes (even in Korean) wasn’t that chewy
