This is true. Every time I was Level 1, Jacob came out of nowhere and tried to sell me a book

Just the sound from the amount of dice he rolled was enough to kill the wizard.

Player: *Writes 300-page backstory about their level one character's conquest across a continent and how they took over every country he came across*
The character: *Dies to a rat in the first dungeon*

Forget goblins
"You're in a tavern and a fight breaks out. You're hit with a beer bottle."
"I'm dead."

Level 1, where spooky bats are extra spooky

Looks like what these guys need is a quest that will give them enough XP to get to Level 3!

"The goblins take you prisoner. You all wake up with 1 hp in a cage made of bones that's also in a large tent. You see your weapons and gear nearby. There's one guard. What do you do?"

This is so accurate though, like every single time my group and I started a campaign at lvl 1, we got TPKd, and then Jacob randomly aparated behind one of our players

Hol-up so they've already died in the first session three times and someone STILL went with a wizard with a +0 to con an no defense spells. Power move honestly

Player : "I also have 6 HP"
DM : sound of rolling several dice.
Me : "You a dead man."

This hits hard.
Almost as hard as EVERY ENEMY WHEN YOU"RE LEVEL 1.

Using average damage for mobs, rather than rolling, is helpful for keeping low-level characters up! Then switch to rolling maybe at level 3.

"was this just an ad to Jacob's new book?"
"always been."

Here's a neat little fact: Levels 1 and 2 are designed to be "starter levels" in 5e. In the D&D Next playtesting documents, its specifically mentioned that levels 1 and 2 are meant to teach newer players how to play the game, and that the assumption is that more experienced groups will start at level 3. Despite this, this is never mentioned anywhere in any published 5e content, much less the PHB or the DMG. So, level 1 and 2 suck so much because thats how they were designed

"Omg, it's so hard to die in 5e! Having no fear of death really dampens my immersion!"
It literally just depends on how your DM runs things. This video is a clear example.

Level 1 is definitely very very scary.
It's so fun thinking about stuff that is so low damage yet so deadly. "While you're in this boss fight against the necrotic fungus plaguing the forest, you suffer 1 point of Necrotic damage at the start of all of your turns."
1 hit point... and panic ensues.

You encounter the demon lord, god of destruction end lord of all lords, the last sight... snowball the bunny rabbit. The end boss for the level one quest.

A wizard at level 1 with 10 Dex and 10 Con is built to die.

I like the idea that, when Jacob finishes each of his videos, he’s creating a new branch universe in the multiverse where all of his characters are stuck either doing whatever or repeating the video infinitely. Positively terrifying.

Man am I here for how increasingly self-referential and meta these are getting, please never stop!
