I can appreciate this. Thanks
I actually live about a mile from where the guy who invented the grease Zerk. His house was the Zerk mansion and his gate at his house was spelled Dun Movin’. Pleasant Prairie WI. Is where the house is. Kenosha Co. WI

Used to work with an old mechanic that called grease zerks "Alemite fittings". Never heard anybody else call them that. Thanks for the great advice Mike!

Thanks so much! I was about to buy new zerks and considered that they may snap or strip. It took longer to drag out my torch than to fix it on my 40+ year old lawnmower. A big thank you!

This worked great on my backhoe . I had one zerk that water pools up in and I haven’t been able to use it for a bit. This worked like a charm

I have one that’s giving me a heck of a time. I tried a heating torch right off the bat but it didn’t do the trick. I don’t really want to take it all apart. Now I’m searching through YouTube. Nice little grease gun you have. I suppose I’ll keep using the best trick I’ve found for problems, , persistence.

I appreciate the input. Following your lead I did essential the same thing with a heat gun.

I was talking to my brother in law (late 20s early 30s) he was working under his truck doing what ever. I asked him if he was greasing the zerks. He slid out real quick and looked at me mean and said "aint no jerks under here"! Oh my lord, the mind is a terrible thing. That was an obvious fix that I never thought of. Hell I don't know if any of my NEW vehicles even have them.

We call them grease nipples here in australia. Dunno if they are the same as your zerks but grease nipples have a spring & a ball in them & if you heat a spring it weakens them & the ball wont be pushed back against its seat therefor letting contamination in. I think i will just stick with changing the zerk/ grease nipple.

Never thought about putting heat on a zerk. I have seen tools that you hammer to hydraulicly force hardened grease though but I think your way is better.
