Rode PodMic Dynamic Mic Review / Test

Today I review the brand new Rode PodMic, an entry level budget podcasting microphone. I also compare it to the Shure SM58, sE Electronics V7, and Sennheiser E835. This microphone seems to be tuned specifically for spoken word, and it does it’s job very well. At $100, Rode has made a very compelling option for entry level podcasters.

I've had this mic for about a year now after watching this video and I'm thoroughly happy with the purchase. It's perfect for my voice. Only issue I had was finding it in stock shortly after it came out.

I never subscribe to review channels BUT this is the most perfect, in-depth yet short and simple review I have ever seen. You covered every little thing I wanted to know. Absolutely perfect. Subscribed.

This was the most clear explanation of this microphone which I purchased a week ago. Very helpful, thank you.

Nice one! Thanks for checking out the PodMic 😄

P.S. when's that PodMic review dropping? 😉

I picked this mic up with the Rodecaster. I like how it sounds. Much heavier than I expected, it’s like a little tank. I was thinking, “oh, it’s tiny, this will be great to travel with....”. NOPE! Will still travel with the Procaster but overall, I’m really happy with the PodMic. Especially for the price point.

I really appreciate the effort you put into this video, also how you compared them to other mics in the same price range really good work. 👍👍

I have been waiting on this mic forever. I already have the Rodecaster Pro and the Rodeprocaster. Mics are addicting.

i started to use this mic after your review for rap vocals and for the record it’s amazing actually for the price ( for more information i think spoken words mics usually do really good job on rap vocals cuz rap is frequently a spoken words but faster and little more complicated )

thank you man ❤️

I feel like they just chopped the end off of the Procaster.
Awesome review and now I know I won't regret my pre-order!

I've been using my SM7b at the PC and really want to put it to work in the studio. I think at this price-point and performance the PodMic would be more suited to be permanently assigned PC duty.

Instant cred when you pulled out the MusicMan. But by the time I got to that in the video, I was already super impressed by the video and the channel! Way to go!

I really like the detail and way you cover all the questions someone could think of weather there a pro audio engineer or just a newbie that doesn't know what to look for, you have it covered. 👍👍 This has been the fact on every video that I have reviewed of the one's that you created. Great work!

While it may not be the SM7B, it’s ridiculously close for a quarter of the price. I find it has a nice sound, and the build quality is outstanding. I concur that you will need a windscreen; I use a gooseneck pop screen and it’s fine. The PodMic has been my daily driver for more than a year now. It’s hard to believe that $100 buys you a broadcast quality microphone, but I would absolutely use these in a studio. This is what I use to voice track from home. A little tuning with a preamp, or even just the settings of the Scarlett interface will give you a nice sound that’s very respectable on the radio. I work in a big market and had NT1A’s in my voice booth. And just behind the BCM-104, the best mic I ever used in an on-air studio was the Rode Broadcaster. You’ve gotta love Rode for delivering quality that nips at the heels of the Shures and Neumanns of the world at a fraction of the price.

Great review, I truly appreciate it. Thanks for explaining the features of the frequency response diagram and giving the rationale. I ordered two Podmics and the Rodecaster Pro, and look forward to having some great interviews using this equipment in the future.

To my ears, I preferred the sound of the SM58 and the sE V7. Although I felt that the Podmic sounded nicer on the Rode gear than it did on the 2i2.
