This is absolutely my experience. The three-day cruises are booze cruises, with most of the passengers being from the departure port. It is a totally different experience than the longer cruises.

I agree. Rather than anyone asking "what is the best line?", we should only ask the question "what is the best line for the following experience type that I am in the mood for, for this trip?" Only such specific questions are really meaningful.

Now that was a clever and entertaining way to present some sound advise.

For those of us on a tight budget but prefer cruising to other getaways, the critical question is how to balance against being trapped on a cheap or boring trip on some worn out tub ready for the scrapyard. I find the best option is not to begin seeking low price offers, but interesting new destinations or ports of call instead. Then I pick which ship or line includes extra features and amenities at little or no cost, followed by watching specific videos such as yours to learn how to choose right times to travel that itinerary and pitfalls to avoid. Finally I use past experience to rank in order my favorite lines. Only then do I start shopping for just the right cabin at just the right price

Thoughtfully presented, Gary. I’m doing a solo 5-night on Regal Princess in a couple of weeks. First time on Princess, and first balcony cabin! Second cruise ever, the first being Holland America Boston to Montreal. This will be more of a relaxation cruise than a tourist cruise, and I’m really looking forward to it! These lines seem to have more what I’m looking for, rather than an amusement park at sea. Your videos are are so well done. You have become my cruise guru!

I've watched you for a few years and never realized you did not sail on Carnival (my fav cruise line). So this tells me your videos are inclusive enough for all cruisers. Good job!

22 cruises on Princess and no desire to change. They are exactly what I enjoy when I am cruising.

My first cruise was on P&0 (Australia). It was a 4 day cruise with one shore day. I found it to be the perfect "taster" cruise for the novice because it gave a good idea about how things worked on the ship, and was also a good length cruise for those that might suffer motion sickness because it meant you could disembark after the first 2 sea days if you wanted to. Since then I have tried 3 other cruise lines and found that an 8 to 12 day cruise on Celebrity X suits me and my wife best.

We love Viking. Smaller ships, fabulous food and service. We don’t care about fancy water slides, we want to spend most of our time in port.

I have been cruising since 1968 and found my favorite cruise lines change over the years. When I was younger, I enjoyed Princess and Royal Caribbean. We were both different then. People change and cruise lines change. I suggest that people keep an open mind and realize that everything change. Some of my favorite cruise lines no longer . I have found other cruises lines that I enjoy.

When you love a cruise line, NCL in our case, we stayed with them for 20 more cruises with four more booked. We have never been disappointed. However, we have always stayed with their smaller ships. At our age, we don’t like crowds, nor do we need all the fancy things that the bigger ships have.

Good perspectives. Cruising is like life journey. Begin dating with different partners until finding your life long partner but still maintaining friends for different activities but always go to your lifelong partner. For me, I started cruising on various ship lines like Holland, Celebrity, Royal Caribbean, etc until I settled on Princess. I still do other cruises depending on activities but my main cruise line is Princess. 👍

This particular VLOG was very creative. I enjoyed it immensely. It also made some great points that I haven't heard discussed elsewhere. I myself have found that having 2 or 3 favorite cruise lines to be a nice balance. It allows you to acquire tier levels fairly efficiently while keeping a varied cruise "diet" that allows you to focus on different likes. I for example enjoy Holland America and Royal Caribbean a great deal. They are two very different cruise lines but each one of them satisfies different elements of what I enjoy about cruising depending on what I am in the mood for in any given moment.

After watching about 60 of your videos, this may be your BEST one for ME! I started cruising in 1969 have done 83 cruises on the following lines: Cunard, Oceania, azamara, celebrity, Holland, royal Caribbean, princess, ncl, chandris, costa, and carnival… I’m not “loyal” to anyone of the above, we think the exact way. But when newbies ask “what is the best….” People give their opinions without even seeing the age of who asked and other personal most important factors, THIS gets me angry… I always preface my sentences with “I” like xxx for their classical live quartet music (ex)… recently saw a cruise (C) where the price was “too good to pass up” with the right ports, then realized that I loathed it the 2 times I’ve gone with them, and I would loathe it even more since I can afford more! Thank you for this one and hope to meet you some day!

Cruise lines and itineraries evolve depending on where you are in life. With our kids and now grandson, Royal Caribbean is a nice fit for a fun family time. For us traveling now it is Celebrity or Viking depending on where we are going. And adding river cruises it is a whole new opportunity to enjoy the world.

I Like NCL line with them for about 10 years. I like the Haven, but often book balcony. I will do a cruise to Antarctica on a Lindblad Excursions because you set foot on Antarctica not cruise by it. Will be on Encore in March. already planning it.

I like your clever (and cheeky!) approach to this video. These are terrific tips!

So I'm 36 with two young kids and I really like the idea of a resort with lots of things to do on the boat for all ages so Royal Caribbean/ncl etc really does speak to me more than let's say Cunard, but that's why it's a good thing multiple different types of cruise lines exist. But yeah this is a good idea for pretty much any big decisions that you make in life you kind of have to sit down and decide if this really fits your needs/want or else you're going to be disappointed

Oh so cheeky Gary….I’m with you, my curated group is Holland America—working hard on my Mariner stars, Princess and Celebrity.

I really enjoyed your approach to cruising in this video. Choosing a cruise line is like "playing the field" to see which is right for you. Sometimes when we choose a different line from our favorite, I feel like we are cheating, but we always do return to "the one." Great video and I do agree that Princess does do Alaska best.
