Probably one of the best breakdowns of Steph Curry’s shooting form

Another thing that makes Steph’s shot so hard to guard is his high release. The arcs on his shots are insane

Enjoy him while you can, there may never be another Steph Curry. Sure someone might break his 3pt record one day but the range of difficulty of Stephs shots and finishes are unbelievable. Box office worthy.

Steph curry is not ONE of the best shooters we’ve ever seen. He’s undeniably, unquestionably, irrefutably THE greatest shooter of all time. There’s no one even remotely close to him. He’s on a different level, an entirely different atmosphere.

There's a video on Youtube in which Curry's personal skill coach Brandon Payne mentions that one thing Curry especially trains for is independent control over his upper and lower body. That way he can perform the same consistent shooting motion with his upper body while independently having his lower body do all the other necessary stuff (e.g. create balance, jump and turn towards the basket). This video demonstrates that very well.

Me who doesn't have enough energy for a 2 motion shooting form:
*Maybe I am Steph Curry*

There will probably not be another like him in whatever years of life I have. It is a privilege to witness. He is to 3-point shooting, what Wilt was to inside scoring.

The biggest element to his shooting is his confidence in making them and the tenacity to utilize his speed and range to make a basket, doesn't matter if he misses the first 30 attempts, he will still go for the next 30 and believe that he will most likely make them go in.

You have finally unlocked the Di Vinci Code that is Stephen Curry. This is our local living legend here in the Bay Area and I'm obsessed with this guy's technique and mechanics. But, the thing that was hiding in plain sight I couldn't quite see you solved for me finally. It is the lower half of the body, the legs and the sheer fact he is the rare player ever in the history of the sport to not land with a single, singular form or follow through with relentless unwavering consistentcy, but, as you brilliantly laid out with pin point percise detail, Steph isn't restricted to any one way of landing or limited to one rigid way of finishing his shot release or inflexible to changing of the direction his lead shooting foot points toward. I struggled and struggled to find the hidden secret knowledge that made his shot style so unique and original only for you to decode that modern cosmic riddle and arrive at the there in wide open is the obvious.
Thank you, my dude.

Thank you, this is a great breakdown. When he’s done people will be pouring over everything he did because they will finally start to understand how unique he is, and your work here will be there for them when they finally get it.

Thanks so much. This is the best explanation of Curry's form I've seen

My HS coach was an elite college shooter and he actually taught this single motion technique. I improved tremendously but back then it wasn't even conceivable to be taking shots like Steph does. Just thinking about pulling up from 3 with my right foot behind my left is just insane and he knocks it down no problem. It's not just reps to get to that point but he truly has a gift or like JJ Reddick said he may have unlocked a new level of consciousness.

What is the most shocking to me is, even with the speed of his release. He still makes every single one of them!

I think Harden still got more "pausing" in his form, He's waiting to reach the apex of his jump to release the ball.
Steph Curry shooting movements (the jump the rotation) are Not completely over, after the release, i think.

I can promise you no one jumps straight up and down. They typically land a little ahead of where they start.

A lot of people talk about klays "perfect form" but to me Steph has the perfect form

Personally I don't believe Klay Thompson has a 2 motion shooting form as there is no visible hitch. When a shot has a hitch that is where the term 2 motion comes from.

In fact Klay's shot is more fundamentally sound than Curry's.
Curry can shoot from everywhere not only because of 1 motion, but because it's a lower release point and he doesn't jump as high. His shoot has a push element to it, not just a flick of the wrist.

Break it down however you want but you can clearly see all throughout this video that steph has unique intangibles that not even the best shooting coaches can teach. Steph operates in a different plane. There is no debate on who the greatest shooter is. You can only argue on who comes second after Curry

Perfect breakdown 🔥 also his landing depends heavily on what defenders do. If he doesn’t have landing space he’ll land with his feet out to the sides

Stephen Curry's shooting form break down: One motion release, Sweep and Sway, Feet are turned and not squared, dip the ball, eye follow the ball after release, elbow/hand release in line with the rim.
