With the core four increasingly dominating the payroll, it’s almost impossible to build a well rounded championship lineup. ✔️

The Leafs are not doing anything until we get playoff performers, and sadly that means getting a new core. This one we botched, and they learned to be scared of losing instead of being hungry for winning, and that makes all the difference in the world

Nobody really seems to be touching on it yet but the best thing about Matthews becoming the captain is that he can no longer laugh off punches to the face, or turn his back to a scrum in the corner. He's going to have to be tougher for himself and his teammates because Captains have to throw hands sometimes to make a point to the other team. Captains can't be jumping out of the way of body checks, can't skate away from scrums or make a career out of avoiding the hard areas of the ice. Tavares was a great captain for this reason as he just fights through most of what other teams throw at him but Matthews and Marner have a literal entire career of them avoiding a lot of the hard areas on the ice. This is a good sign that Berube might actually hold him accountable and help push Matthews to find another gear that encompasses the playoff environment.

Sit the players in front of the tv and have them watch every Panther’s playoff game from last year. Clearly show what it takes. 23 hearts pounding together on every second of each game.

Mathews is current, Tavares is past. Live goes on.

I think the significance is Berube won a Stanley Cup with a team who previously had never won one.

I usually like to determine if the Leafs did the right move by reading comments for those who are jealous / hate the Leafs. If they're happy, then it's a bad move. If you see them complaining and trying to downplay it, that usually means they made the right move.

😂

3:35 Bunkis pretending like he's been involved in team meetings, practices, and pre/post game scrums with the boys for the last six years 😂! Also.... what a backhanded compliment lol! "The best thing you did as captain, John... was when you stepped down as captain!" Sooo much speculation

You know people say loosing the C is a big deal but its hard to say man unless you know the guy well. What I saw was weight lifted off his face when he was handing over the jersey. JT just may have beein tired of that resposiblility. Hard to say unless you know him but my sense is when he spoke with the media on a reg basis esp after a loss or playoff exit he looked really drained emotionally man. I can't see Matthews liking answering tough questions based on how I have read him in past. Anyway at the end of the day they made a change....The guys in the dressing room though only know if it was the right move or not.

Thank you John Tavares for ALLOWING the Leafs to make a decision that they are the only ones with the right to make. Softest market in the league.

What does lead by example mean when you have 23 equals playng? All 23 can screw up or succeed. Wouldn’t you agree that Mathew
‘ 69 goals leads by example?

Say anything you want, its not a good look taking the C from a player that has wore the C his whole career but his fiirst 3 seasons. Messier, Yzerman, Tavares etc, leave it to the Leafs to pull this classless move!! This was a desperate move by MLSE to try and save what little face they have with the fanbase putting the C on the teams best and city's favourite player. PERIOD

11 million dollar boo-hoos. Poor John. Nice guy, but after 56 years THE TEAM COMES FIRST. Big deal YouTube fodder.
