Thank you for this!!! For those that tried it and it didn't work, try checking the Folder Actions Setup again to see if the script is attached. Mine didn't attach at first until I did it again.

If you were to use an external hard drive, would this script still write to the internal drive and copy over or would it only go onto the external?

This does not appear to work on 10.13.6 (high sierra). I followed it note by note; proofread the script character by character; in the workflows folder, applications, folder actions. Does not work.

On MacOS Sonoma this was just making a copy to my new location, leaving the original in the downloads folder. I changed the on moveFile section to this and it's doing what it should now. If you're on Sonoma you might have to do this too.

on moveFile(move_file, destination_dir)

set posix_dest_dir to POSIX path of destination_dir

set posix_move_file to POSIX path of move_file

do shell script "mv " & quoted form of posix_move_file & " " & quoted form of posix_dest_dir
end moveFile

Hey Mate. Love it! I was wondering if you could give a similar method for changing the default download and desktop folders as well? (not changing downloads from safari or chrome, I intend on using the same downloads and desktop folder for two users using the same Mac)

Tried it and it works, AirDrop to external drive connected to the Mac. However, I notice that it still saves on the default Downloads folder as well as the custom defined folder/path I set. Why does that happen on the Downloads folder though? So I have 2 copies each time I AirDrop, one in the default Downloads and the other in the external drive folder I set.
