You rock! I have been racking my brain trying to diagnose my overflow problem... it was the bowl itself.

Great videos, Shane! Kudos to you and your students for posting these!

One other thing, do not use ethanol fuel if it is going to sit a while, the stuff will ruin your carburator. It did mine and that is why I am on this video.

Just got a brand new Nibbi carb with that same issue. Messed with the float for an hour before realizing this was the problem. Wish I would have seen your video before...lol

Thank you! I’ve been messing around with the float and the float valve. I didn’t even think it would be the bowl itself...problem fixed

Hi. Why did you have to put a new tube over the old one? Couldn't you just JB Weld the cracked one?? If this is why my overflow tube is leaking, you're a God! Thanks

Which epoxy did you seal the fix with? The idea of epoxy mingling with gasoline makes me nervous since carbs can be sensitive. But you think that's alright to do?

you got the best how 2's... appreciate all the info

didn't you have it hot enough to carefully solder the tube?

Yes, master I agree.. Which epoxy do you recommend? I've yet to find one that will hold up under/against the flow of the petrol..

I have an 87 FXRS with the Kiehn Butterfly Carb . It runs great but I get a smell of gasoline all the time .Sometimes no evidence of drip just a smell . When I do notice a drip it is from the overflow tube on the bowl. I put new float needle in and clened it and checked float level, all is good . I put new brass fuel inlet into carb, still smell gas. I shut gas off before putting in garage and run till engine stops . I am getting ready to tear the carb off and check or rebuild again . i saw this great video and now wonder if maybe I am getting a leak where overflow tube goes into bowl like you just had on your video. I am going to check it out . Thanks for your great videos.

Hello, I wanted to know what the epoxy you used for this was? I have a carburetor leaking from one of the side inlet panels and am searching for the best sealant to use on it.

I had the same thing happenning on my 87 FXRS and I always used to smell gas but the bike ran great, I replaced the plastic inlet with the brass inlet, still smell gas . I had the guy who built my engine, very well established old time Harley machine shop check the carb out and fixed it up . Runs great, still smell gas . I can see gas coming out overflow tube when idling, it's getting worse . I took carb off my bike, replacin the Kiehn butterfly with a Harley CV used rebuilt carb . I tried this test after watching your video, dont see any bubbles . the float and needle and jet look good. It's gotta be something slightly cracked. When you turn fule on bike runs good and fule pours out overflow tube. It's time for the more reliable carb anyhow, but drives me nuts that can't figure it out. Original carb, 85k miles, I guess it's just done.

that's a good problem to drill down on and solve..but parts a pretty cheap to just replace the bowl once identified as an issue...unless of course parts are no longer available...i dont understand the brass outer sheathing on the over flow tube...was that simple to add sstrenght? it looked longer than the stock overflor tube anyway...also will the eopxy hold up to gasoline for years? or will that fix need to be redone every year?

I use Por 15 with a small brush in layers instead of epoxy. JB weld will degrade in modern gas.

that' it was my problem too thought it was a needle/seat issue but it runs fine and even with fuel off it makes a mess, thank you! just wonder if JB weld might be better?

this should fix one of my problems thanks.
I will probably still have fuel leaking out of my overflow tube into the filters making my fuel air mix too rich.
one problem at a time
