Hi Warren, you know the sound of the bass on the Beatles' White Album? There's a high end sizzle, that always made me think of it as 'overcooked.' Dear Prudence, Yer Blues, Helter Skelter are the most obvious examples (Giles toned that sizzle down in the remixes. This technique reminds me a bit of that sound. Would you know how that was done? Cheers!

Neat trick, will have to try. Usually I just double the bass then put a low pass filter on the double, panned the other direction.

Why can’t you just use a single bass channel and have a saturation plugin (decapitator) filtered to not mess with frequencies below 200 Hz?
