Yup, Don't drone them subs! In a club after speaker processing and room reverb it just sounds like one long groove less drone there.
Subs need to groove too! It's dance music

I sidechain or do a slow fade on the kicks transient and fade in on the 808s punch. Seems to work out.

You don't need to do it manually in FL, you can cut the beginning in the envelope for the sampler. You can also add a timing delay in the sampler settings, too.
